General difficult finding a stilo

General difficult finding a stilo

the racing is saturday and sunday. there will be a 3 hour endurance race on the sat afternoon and short sprint races on sunday (but you will be gagging to get back to Stoke)

Diesel engine may be capable of 350k+, but most of the rest of the car, i.e. suspension, rear axle, steering, wheel bearings, brakes, cables, electronics, electrics, lighting, airbags, heating/ventilation system, dashboard, controls, upholstery, mobile bodywork is the same as, and wears and develops faults, the same as the petrol versions.

Yes and no, depends how it's been treated and looked after really. I suppose it's catch 22. A lot is age related mainly as well such as electrics etc.

the blue stilo in the link I have been watching for a while, hes not shifting it, but its a bit out of my price range at the moment. I really do want the SkyRoof now, the stint of good weather left me thinking that if i had it, itd just be great, if i didnt, id be wishing i had it! Its not an abolsute MUST, but certainly high on the list. I agree with RattyStilo, if you have something you want in a car, you should get it otherwise youre gonna regret it! I dont mind it going wrong so much, seems theres a manual way to open and close(so that you can at least fix any sensor/electrical fault)

end of the day, the cars got more electronics to go wrong than any car i have had, so im not worried.

Think this one will be a better proposistion :

Last of the range on a 07 Plate. Good Spec.

i like the mj in the link, but its much higher insurance, and much more money than I can afford.

I have spoken to the chap selling the blue one, not much to tell really. Its a trade sale, as its a part x. 2/3 owners, details sketchy as he didnt have them to hand. Apparently the air con works "good enough", not sure what that means, either it works or it doesnt, so I need to egt my arse down there for a look, I plan to do this on Sunday but need to ring them first(in case its sold)

works good enough means it puts out cold air, but would benefit from being regassed. Cost will be about 60-70 ish so dont be put off. Its a nice looking motor, good colour too. And on blades.

with regards the aircon, yes, thats fine by me I certainly dont mind regassing, just so long as it can be proved the system at least turns on and tries to put out cold air. I love those alloysm cant wait to get down there for a look but knowing my luck it will have sold. :(

going to discuss this with my other half tonight, may be worth seeing if I can secure it with a deposit, although thats a bit risky, only other option is to get day off work tomorrow and go for a look....unlikely as I travel to wales in the evening....

yeah, it is near to Shadey and the way he wants to own every Stilo ever made he might be sniffing round this one already.

have a look at exactly where it is and see if you can look at it on route to wales. Not sure where you live but if its london/beds/herts/northants you go past stoke and can go M6 or A50 depending on which side it is.

Bear in mind that from the registration plate (beginning 'WV') it's highly likely it was originally a Fiat Auto Fleet car. Might've been on rental fleet but given it was usually only 5dr Stilos that were given out to hire car companies and given the high spec of this one, it's unlikely. Was probably a Fiat demo/press car or employee car. If that's the case it might've only been with it's 1st owner for upto 12 months, so even if it's had 2 owners since, that's pretty good for a 7 year old car. Anything more than a total of 3 owners then i'd be abit more wary, especially if the last one didn't keep it more than a year. Most JTDs seem to be kept a while so am sure you're fine, but it's all good advice to avoid a lemon (y)

Do check the a/c is attempting to cool down the cabin - my 54 plate a/c stopped working a couple of months ago & it's the condensor and/or associated pipework that's knackered, which is obviously abit more pricey than a re-gas. If this is the case with the one you're going to see the a/c literally won't kick in at all, other than the 'on' light on the button.

Colour is good - it's one of the colours that was introduced with/after the 2004 facelift. And being pedantic, the wheels are Claws, but still 17" like the Blades i believe

omg i can't believe i got the wheels wrong. Yeah defo Claws, time for an eye test i think. My wife's 500 is a Fiat fleet car and its mint so don't worry if it has been a fleet car. I can't see it as a press car though somehow. Maybe a demo but again nothing to worry about.

cheers chaps, it all sounds pretty good to me tbh. I liek your tips and advice, i feel a bit more confident. The A/C is important to me, but I would let it slide if the rest of the car made up for it-which at first glance this one does. I'm reasonably capable at fixing things, although I would really rather avoid having to fix the air con. A regas is fine, cost wise, a repair not so, because i know i'd be looking at another few hundred quid for a repair...still, i think the car is well worth scrutinizing so if its still for sale Sunday, im going for a look and test drive.

for a 7 year old car, im willing to forgive some minor issues, so i am quite excited at the prospect.

just remember that its a Stilo with a skyroof. It should therefore have the following
water stains down each A pillar where the skyroof drains are blocked/leak.
low suspension at front where coil springs have snapped
Preheat fault on start up
Service indicator shows on start up
Clonking suspension from worn drop links
Maybe airbag light on

If it has none of the above avoid it. Your looking at a Golf by mistake:) this means it will be 1000 overpriced, have less features and just as many faults which cost twice as much to fix.

lol, very funny, youre probably right as well!!

talking of water stains, i looked at one Stilo, no sunroof, but still had stains down the pillar!!

anyhoo, ill try and avoid the dullsville Golf.

Oops, I am probably a bit late on this discussion.

But just out of interest, I was thinking of upgrading my Stilo & I wanted to upgrade to a 150 multijet, with skyroof.

I checked out the 'how many stilo poll' & asked some of the chaps who fit the criteria if they want to sell.

One chap did. It was the spec I wanted with only 35k on the clock. He wanted £3000 for it. I was very tempted but decided to just stick with what I have.

Using the same method to find a good car could be an option for you too Clivvy, if the deal your after falls through.

Thanks Mike, that's a good idea I'll try that although I have put an add in classifieds wanted section too which seems to wortk-just haven't found the right car yet...

This is very true. Why you say. Grimaldi Lines are contracted from Fiat Auto Spa in delivering all Fiats for the West coast of UK to Avonmouth near Bristol, hence Bristol beginning with WV.

A good example is when you are on the M5 going just outside of Bristol going past Avonmouth southbound, look to your right in Avonmouth, its all :D Fiat , (y) Alfa Romeo , :yum: Maserati and :worship: Ferrari . All Fiat Group Cars. 1 enormous Italian Car Park in the UK.
