Hi new to this site. Have a problem in that the red airbag light now stays on.It used to come on when someone sat on the passenger seat mostly my 10 year old daughter who is not very big.It then went off.Now its on and will not go out have checked all the conections they all seem ok.Thought it may be the senser mat on the seat But now lights on all the time im not so sure. Hope someone can shed some light on this as its driving me mab!!!:bang:

re: Airbag Light will not go out (OCS fault?)

That's the way my passenger seat OC Sensor went. Initially triggering only when someone sat in the seat but steadily getting worse until it was red light straightaway with ignition on. The dashboard amber "passenger seat sensing" used to flash quite a bit for no reason too if that's any help

If it is just the underseat wiring airbag connectors then the red light tends to go off for a while and then permanently on when you move the seat.

I did a guide (click on "Guides" above) on how to change the OCS mat. Shame you have to buy the whole seat base and sensor and not able to buy just the sensor as it ain't cheap at £100 a time

Ive tried the wiring under the seat but the red light just stays on the other amber light lights up when the ignition is switched on but then goes out.will a fiat dealer be able to tell if it is the seat sensor? i dont want to spend £100 if it is not faulty.

I have had same fault, in my case it was a bad contact in connections under the passenger seat. for starters move the seat as far back as possible and feel under the front of the seat where the loom is and then see if the fault has cleared all the best bill stevenson

"It used to come on when someone sat on the passenger seat mostly my 10 year old daughter who is not very big.It then went off.Now its on and will not go out have checked all the conections they all seem ok".
That's the OC Sensor then

"Thought it may be the senser mat on the seat"
And you're right

"will a fiat dealer be able to tell if it is the seat sensor? i dont want to spend £100 if it is not faulty".

It'll cost from Fiat just to find out. When you buy a new OC Sensor just plonk it on top of the passenger seat and plug in the connector. Test it. All working fine? End of problem. If it's still the same then you can return the part in its box with just a small return fee

Hi new to this site.
Welcome to the site, and welcome to the world of Stilo.
I think everyone has had this fault at some point, I disconnected all the plugs under the seat, re arranged the looming and sprayed the contacts with electrolube and reconnected the lot. Fault hasn't came back.

re: Airbag Light will not go out (OCS fault?)

Fiat garage said it cant refund for the part if it wasnt needed. So i had a check done it came up with 2 faults 1 was the seat sensor the other some other part cost about 120 pound for both parts (n) But at least the red light will go out:)

re: Airbag Light will not go out (OCS fault?)

Yes that's the one. Parts departments here will refund less 10% handling fee for returned parts correctly ordered but that's if you're doing the job yourself of course

It's a very sophisticated system (when it works) but the OC Sensor is a weak spot (Siemens- German design- vors srpung through the seat:) )

airbag weight sensor

my airbag warning light came on at the weekend so thought i would report it while i was dropping the car off at the dealership on Sunday to have some paintwork sorted out. I have now returned home from work today to find a fone message saying i require a weight sensor for passenger side seat and that it would be 300 quid. Ive only had the car just over a month and it came with 1 month warranty and i also took out a years extended, can anyone tell me if this should be covered? Also before i bought the car there was an airbag warning light on but i told them i wouldnt be taking the car until this was fixed but now just over a month in to owning the car it has reappeared

Re: airbag weight sensor

Airbag warning light comes on for any number of reasons but the main two are covered in the Stilo guides up above. Have a look which one matches your symptoms.

OC Sensor (passenger seat sensor) is around £100 from Fiat and most of that is because the seat base is integral with it. About 30mins to fit if you follow the guide so why that would be quoted as £300 i don't know

A month between light coming on doesn't sound so much like OCSensor which tends to go bad rapidly as the circuit is run every time you start or someone sits in the passenger seat.

Does warning happen more when someone sits in the passenger side? Random flashing on dash of airbag amber (pass airbag switched off) warning light=OCS

Is it random but very often when someone moves either seat and can be extinguished by moving wiring under seat?=underseat wiring to airbag connectors

Re: airbag weight sensor

ok so i take what dealership is calling the weight sensor is actually oc sensor.

i dont know what the original fault was so wondering now if this is the same thing or not

basically there has been no passengers for over a week and i was out for a drive at the weekend and the light just apperead and now comes on within say a minute of starting and stays on constant

Re: airbag weight sensor

"ok so i take what dealership is calling the weight sensor is actually oc sensor".
Yes it's grandly titled the Occupant Classification Sensor as it goes beyond just the weight and works out your size, where on the seat you're sitting, forward or back, colour of socks, last underwear change etc

"i dont know what the original fault was so wondering now if this is the same thing or not"
You can have both faults ongoing at the same time but waggling the wiring to the under seat orange connectors tends to make the very common underseat dodgy wiring airbag warning go out

"basically there has been no passengers for over a week and i was out for a drive at the weekend and the light just apperead and now comes on within say a minute of starting and stays on constant"
The OCS sensor, when it's going wrong, tends to go bad real quick until it happens every time you turn on the engine, (often accompanied by mad flashing of the amber pass seat sensing warning) and no waggling of under seat wires will cure it. If your guys have access to examiner then it will show up on there for sure

So looking at OC Sensor replacement £100 plus 30mins to fit

Re: airbag weight sensor

My last Stilo (52' 1.6 5dr) main party piece was the Airbag Warning Light, amongst others, hence my user name! Used to find people of varying heights & weights and even pulling the seat forward to allow vaccing of kiddie debris would set it off... fix usually 1st: jiggling the connectors under passenger seat 2nd: disconnect battery for 10 mins & then reconnect - worth a try I suppose :)

Solving the OCS Airbag Sensor Problem Once and for All

Hi,

here is the ultimate solution:

www.airbag24.de sell a little device which is connected to the airbag system instead of the OCS mat (which dies every once in a while and is expensive to buy as a spare part.

You connect this little device to the airbag system and the airbag system will work again (albeit the passenger side airbag is now always activated).

It is 59 euros plus shipping and I just ordered it.

Best,
Lars.

(albeit the passenger side airbag is now always activated).
I think you mean the passenger airbag is now permantly deactivated.
Is that really worth it?
A new OCS isn't that expensive, just the cost of two tankfuls of fuel and you can fix it properly and maybe save your passenger's life

The OCS is too flexible and not hard wearing enough. Some people have found that by sticking a reinforcing backing to the underside of the OCS it gives better durability and turns out the OCS airbag system failure warning

Got to agree Deckchair5. Not worth the risk, especially if you actually like your passenger.

I found that the actual seat foam under the ocs tends to weaken over time, which then causes the ocs to flex too far and crease. Maybe if the ocs is backed with something a little firmer before the seat foam begins to weaken then it will last a bit longer before "beep beep beep".

Think I'll try this when I get around to sorting it out (am I right in thinking the OCS comes complete with seat foam?)

Yes the OCS comes lightly attached the new seat base cushion. No reason why it shouldn't be sold separately apart from making sure the sensor is correctly positioned on assembly

It could be wise to strengthen the base of the sensor with strong tape before refitting to prevent creasing

Usual sound advice of don't carry heavy or sharp objects on the passenger seat - so put the mother in law on the bus

priced one this morning...£148(inc vat)

I am fully aware that prices for new and used cars differs a lot in the UK vs. Norway. But I dare not ask the price for this one at Fiat here. I asked about a pollen filter, but quicly decided to just pressure-air it. £50 GBP for one pollen filter for the Stilo. If I had know this earlier, I would import an Abarth from Denmark or Germany, at the same price I paid for my 1.6 including VAT/customs etc.

Just to add a new aspect to the airbag failure. My 1.6 litre (2002) has never had airbag failure - until recently. I put my baby daugher in the front passenger seat, just for fun (she usually sits in the middle rear seat). So I deactivated the front passenger airbag and mounted her baby chair. The next day, my niese wanted to sit in front with me, so I activated the airbag, and removed the baby seat. Then... Airbag failure stop engine. The front seat has been at the same place forever as I have 5 doors - which ease the operation of kids and wife etc. Maybe it is not just the connectors under the seat then, but around the key activation point aswell?

Morten.

no - i mean it is permanently activated and nothing else. that is why i posted it. the ocs mat costs around 180 euros over here in germany.

best, lars.
