Someone behind flashed me a few times. Being in a mood, I thought "If you want some I'm willing". However, it turned out to be the brake lights, so TYVM instead.

Read forum notes. Checked fuse (who drew the diagramme in the handbook!??). OK.

Looked above pedals for switches. Two, for some reason. The one above the brake pedal had a brown connector. I fiddled with it and it almost fell (up) and out! Shorting this (ignition on) gave no result. Blast I thought, and went indoors.

However, there's another switch with a white connector. I hurried back out and got that one out. Pulling (up) and rocking it out seems to do the job, it looks as though it should unscrew but they're not threads, look like it though.

Flicking the button on the end a few times got the brake lights on, but not reliably.

I took the switch to bits (table knife to lever and tiny screwdriver).

CARE: This switch contains a "ping-effit" (considerartion to forum language). If you just pull it straight apart a spring may get lost.

The contacts were black and greasy, pitted like a set of points in an old-fashioned distributor, perhaps as I'd sprayed the area from time to time with oil/silicone oil to stop the btake pedal squeaking.

I cleaned off the goo, and flatted the contacts (two, one pitted, one with a raised "pimple") with a dead smooth file.

Everything's back together and it works.

I may buy another switch just in case.

What does the second switch (next to the brake light switch) do?
