Hello
I need to replace the seatbelt on my 2001 Scudo as the return spring has broken. On removing the inertia reel assembly, I find it has a tube with a steel cable running into it from the belt ratchet. What is this unit please? This assembly has an electrical connection to it. Will disconnecting this and fitting another seatbelt cause any problems please? Just worried about and ECUs and ensuing problems.
Thank you.

I would hazard a guess that it may be a pretensioner.

Thanks for the quick response. I am concerned that it is some sort of sensor to detect crash loading. I have read stories about people replacing seat belts and having to buy a new ECU.
Any ideas/information gratefully received.
Thanks
Richard

Don't hold me to that though, it is purely a guess.

I've replaced belts on a couple of my vans in the past and if I remember correctly I disconnected an orange wire each time, it runs under the trim that secures the floor mat where the door closes. Never had any problems, ECU or otherwise. Vans were 2001.

Thank you for that.
I have fitted a seatbelt but left the old part of the unit connected to the orange wire in the door pillar. I will connect the wire up to the replacement after the not just in case.
Thanks
Richard
