What've you found good on your Scudo? Is there a decent but cost-effective choice?

Winter's coming, too... do I need all season, or will Summer ones do?

Hello

Got 43000 out of the Michelins my one came with.
Guess I drive like an old woman

However, I did have to replace one of them (puncture) with a nonamer.
Got around 10000 out of that. Pays yer money yada yada.

Summer tyres will do it, unless your hitting the slopes this season (y)

Those tyres lasted 16,000 not very easy miles. They would have done more if I'd kept them blown up harder - the shoulders wore most, typical underinflation.

Now got Toyo H08 tyres - a bit more expensive, but they look very good.

These have actually got shoulders designed (so they say) to resist wear, and have a deeper tread than the ones that came off - just over 10mm.

Blue Van Man: Mine's blue, too.

Anyway, I ordered some Barum Vanis 102/100T from "Tyre Shopper", the online arm of National. I paid for them, but they then said they hadn't any, and would these Toyo HO8s do instead? Pausing only to Google the price difference, I hastily accepted.

So, the Barum tyres would have been £145 - but I got the Toyo ones for the same price - they would've been £177.

You can get them cheaper from Camskill (£145) but you'd need to get them fitted unless you're near Whitehaven.

National also charge for valves and disposing of the old tyres. If you didn't want these, it should knock off about £8.

It's that time again (all 'round - ouch!). Any suggestions for what's currently good?

FWIW:

"Star Performer £49 specials": 15,000 miles = 1.53p/mile.

"Toyo HO8 van tyres (should've been £88.50)": 26,000 = 1.47p/mile.

The "Star Performers" handled better than the Toyos, especially when the tread was getting a bit low, as now. The Toyos worked out at 96% of the price of the Star Performers on a pence-per-mile-per-(front)-axle basis.

Anyone used Barum Vanis tyres (not BV 2)?

Observation: A lot of poking around on the 'net indicates that "tyre-shopper", the online offshoot of National Tyres, seem to offer the best prices.

This is not an advertisement. If anyone knows a better place, I'd love to hear about it!

I bought Barum Vanis 2 102/100T R rtated tyres at £71.50 each, fitted (at a National fitting centre), including disposal fee and new valves (could have knocked off the disposal & new valves I suppose and saved about £4).

Next I will see how the tyres perform.

I could have has Barum Vanis (not "2") about a tenner each cheaper, but the "2" ones are said to be "fuel saver", and 1%[1] of my 12,000 mile approx annual mileage comes out at about £19 in fuel[2], and the tyres will hopefully last 2 years, so that'll be a saving.

[1] Michelin "energy savers" are supposed to save 1% of fuel costs per corner fitted compared to an "ordinary" non-low-rolling-resistance tyre. I'm assuming Barum Vanis 2 will "save" 0.5% per corner. However, this may be a fallacy.

[2] 12,000 miles at 40MPG (slight optimism, more like 38 with roof rack and My Right Foot), assuming £1.35/litre.
