it may be silly swap but cinq will be off road soon to be cleaned and concourse prepped for next summer,so plan is to extract 16v engine, and place in punto, and punto engine into the smaller cinq,

my question is can i use 8v engine mounts in punto for 16v engine,if not why?

is the d connector on end of loom in the bay simliar to cinq as its a plug and play swap almost in cinq? pictures will help!

does front hose for coolant match up to radiator on 8v and 16v engines, well are the same as i used my cinq hoses for 16v engine cooling.

any info will help!

ps i like building stuff and taking apart so i wont go buy a punto sporting instead

Can I make a suggestion?

Sell the Cinquecento and buy a Punto Sporting 16V.

The brakes, suspension, steering, wheels and tyres will be ready to deal with the engine.

If you're planning the swap legitimately going from 1108 to 1242 cc on the log book could cost you more than a stamp. Engineers report, receipts, proof of build and possibly even an IVA/SVA to fork out for on top of the project costs will have to be considered not only in monetary expenditure but time faffing about.

If you plan to not declare the swap to the dvla expect the next mot to be a fail and a summons in the post.

Sadly legislation is getting tighter by the day and while austerity rules the day quangos like the DVLA are milking as many cash cows as possible.

your suggestion will be ignored as my first post says, i enjoy faffing around tbh plus all will be declared as my cinq currently is,my own reports have been enough to get logbook changed,

talk about buzzkill, came here for information regarding swap etc not to be shot down, back to the cinq section i go then

In that case the 8V 1242 Punto 75 would be a better choice. Less electrical stuff to contend with and more torque making the car easier to live with. As pointed out on another thread the 16V 1242 doesn't have enough torque to pull skin off custard. Unless to rev the crank out of it the engine is basically gutless. This is why Fiat fitted a six speed box second time around and the person who's idea it was to fit that engine to the already lethargic Stilo mysteriously disappeared after waking up next to a horses head.

Sorry if my initial reply came across as obtuse but I'd rather you be fully aware of what you are getting into. As I suggested five to ten years ago, no problem now; a world of faff.

There are comprehensive guides to conversions in the Cinquecento section including the Panda 100hp swap. Enjoy. :)

logbook is easy as pie mate, hand written receipt for engine sent off with the filled in V5 is all that is required..

I think you miss his point Mr.Knight, he has a cinq which he has dropped a punto 16v engine into already and has his eye on a nice condition 55. So point would be to swap the engines round and be left with a stock cinq and a 16v punto. As valver owners we are both well aware that its a bit gutless low down (it is even in a cinq) but its good when you rev this tits off it and its not like a mk1 punto is a heavy car, granted a bit heavier than a cinq but still a 16v punto is under a ton.

As i said on PM fella, i can't see the body looms being that different from 55 to 60 to 75 and 85 really, they are all FIRE engined cars - it would have made sense for fiat to make a body loom that fits all the FIREs (i know they aren't always that sensible) - i would try just plugging the engine loom in and seeing if it fires up.

Failing that i'm pretty sure Mixter has done this conversion and could tell you what if any modifying needs doing at the D4.

Good thinking blu73 if your doing the swap you need the engine loom + the loom that connects to the engine loom, ecu and black box under the steering wheel. Also if the ecu is connectide too a codebox you will need this key too. That comes with the engine. Oh yeah the 8v mounts will fit but you need too replace the studs of the 16v because they are too short. If you have any quostions just ask me. Hope this helps.

I have no intention of pulling the skin off Custard. Who else would update the FAQs and keep the pics in the right place in the Guides? Leave Custard alone!

But memory does play strange tricks on us, and it is weight which primarily determines how many gears a given engine needs to lug around a car. For example, FIAT fit a 6 speed box to the 1.4 16v Stilo and GP, but a 5 Speed box to the Idea with the same engine.

The bald figures say:

P75 engine:

Max Power -- 74bhp @ 6000rpm
Max Torque -- 80 ft.lb @ 4000rpm

1.2 16v engine:

79bhp @ 6000rpm
84 ft.lb @ 4000rpm

All else aside, the 1.2 16v engine, like the 8v Punto engine, will be better lugging the Cinq shell about than the Punto one. Indeed, I'd warrant that a 1.2 16v equipped Cinq with 14" 6J tyres, lowered, and with PGT front brakes, would give an X19 a very hard time.

That sounds like fun. A platform designed in 1969 with an engine from the mid-60's weighing in at 914Kg against a car developed in 1992 fitted with an engine that had over fifteen years of development by the time it was first used weighing in at 200Kg less.

Similar power outputs.

The 1.5 X1/9 recorded at 85hp with 110ft.lb of torque.

It'd be pretty close on the right track. :)
