(G) Welcome to the New Punto 2012 section

With the release of the New 2012 Generation Punto, FIAT has gone back to the standard "Punto" name (ie no Grande, no Evo) - causing confusion somewhat

So for now, this new 2012 section is to be called "Punto 2012" - just to make it obvious.

You'll also notice that all the "Punto Evo" threads are also visible in here (and vica versa) - this is due to their similarities and the fact that users of both will be able to help each other out - however at the same time, they are separate sections in their own right, so things like Members Motors and Classifieds will be able to split as such

The big question now of course is - who is going to be the first to own one???

It's just an evo with tweaked and fully colour coded bumpers. Not a fan yet.

In effect its just a Grande

Think the major differnces is in the drivetrain with the TA engine moving into the Punto lineup

According to FIAT, not a single exterior or interior feature is the same ....

From what i seen in the dealership with i bought my evo, they had the lounge version on show. Major exterior changes are the black plastic bumper thing on the evo is smoothed into the bumper, like the grande, but maintains the actual aesthetics of the evo. Interior fabrics is definately different but not keen. The aesthetics of the new one resembles the evo.

Running gear will be identical as the chassis is still the same, but just found out its identical to the corsa D, just the introduction of the 85 ponied twinair engine.

The corsa and the punto do share parts but chassis isn't technically one of them.
They follow similar dimensions in manufacturing but you would struggle to see what they had in common if you stood the cars side by side. Non of the pannels which make up the monocoque are the same.

Fiat say the exterior of the new 2012 punto is updated with a new blue and me Tomtom interface and updated seat fabrics

Having had an 06 GP Dynamic and then an 08 Tjet GP I have been without a Punto for a few years. However last weekend we went ahead and signed up for a new 2012 Punto Easy.
Several issues - I'm not sure I like the new names - Pop, Easy and Lounge and that only two colours are available at no extra cost - white and a yuk blue

Anyway we have ordered our Easy with Exotic red paint and the options of the full blue & me and cruise control

Delivery is expected around August/Sept.

I've had a new punto 2012 just over 2 weeks now.
I opted for the EASY 1.4i model and quite impressed with it.
I had a grande in 07 and seems to have improved a lot.
Managed to do a deal to get £750 off list price as its WHITE, and wasn't my first choice of colour but the wife liked it

The main difference I've noticed is the engine seems a lot better, smoother.
My last grande was in 2007-2009 and was a 1.2i so i suppose it would be better 5 yrs down the line. It's seems to be getting better as it "loosens up".
I'm slowly getting used to the start/stop as its the first car I've had with this on it and to start with I was finding it slow to restart as i was ready to pull off before it had started but I think it's just my style of driving as it ok now.
To me build quality seems a bit better interior wise as well.
The only thing I will change over is the issue of no spare tyre and it's off to a scrappy for a spare and jack kit ASAP .
As i said overall I'm impressed with it but only had it 2 weeks so will have to get a few more miles on it.

I just remembered that the only glitch I have had so far *is the drivers door mirror pillar, the little black plastic cover fell off but it was replaced by the dealer when I took it in.

Hi Guys, I have just ordered my Punto Lounge, 5 door with the 1.3 Multijet lump. Spec'd it up as much as I could as its my first ever new new car and wanted it to be special. apparently the lead time s 12 weeks so I shall wait and see. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the start/stop. gonna be odd getting used to that! Anyone else ordered one?

Having had a couple of GPs in the past I agree the build quality is better than previous Punto incarnations.

The other thing I've done is delete the alloys option (which saved £300) as my wife touch parks, so I will be interested to see if I get a spare wheel instead of the pump and gunge .

My 116d has stop/start and it does take some getting used to. I haven't been able to beat that one but I will try the Punto when it arrives

TheOvers - when is yours expected for delivery? Will you wait to register on/after 1st Sept for the new reg?

Well they have said 12 weeks so I expect July so I'll register it then. Re the spare wheel, I said and I quote "what's this fix and go rubbish?. I want a proper spare" so they said ok then. Mind you, I have chucked virtually every extra on so I hope they thought ok then. But, apparently it's only £40 to get it normally
