So I have an issue with the power steering- the little red light comes on, but the steering DOES NOT go heavy - it stays normal. Its been on a battery tester and its all charging fine.

However, I noticed something else - just out of look as I happened to glance at the dash quickly - when the power steering light illuminates, the ABS and handbrake light also flash quickly on and off -possible they flash on and off again, but its difficult to continue looking when driving!

Obviously an electrical niggle, but not sure where to look.

Not been on a code reader, but I am not sure that would show anything anyway.

Interesting, I had a similar issue and I had a problem with a ****ed ecu, had errors everywhere with no errors

Right. Car now passed MOT, but still having issues with this light. Still keeps coming on, usually after a few minutes or couple of miles. ABS and (!) lights also flash for about a second at a regular interval.

Its been on a code reader and brought nothing up. I know its not battery/alternator as also tested that would was charging at 13.6 under heavy load - all lights on full, blowers on, radio on, wipers and heated rear screen on the full works.

Could it be the relays - about the only thing I can think of to be honest.

Ive never herd of this before... When the lights come on are they false or is it actually happening?

Nothing appears to happen. Steering stays light, doesn't appear to be any issue with the brakes when the lights flash.

i just had the same issue today, red light came on during driving, but pas still worked normally
battery is good
must be bug

Comes on as a matter of course now. Took battery off to charge it and still the same.

i had the exact same issue with my fiat GP.. after locating a full wiring diagram and spending some time going over it.. Discovered the earth for the power steering ecu piggy backs off the near side front head lamp.. dodgy connecting due to dampness causing power steering and abs warning light to come on.. Give connections a clean.. And all fixed! As a precaution I ran an earth from the chassis directly to the power steering ecu..

I have the same problem here I have just bought a 1.9 multi jet n that last owner said it failed the mot as the steering light was in but I have had the car stared for 45 min today n no light come on on the bash bored but he said the light comes on and off but the steering don't go heavy any ideas ? For got to say mine a grande

Hello Guys.
According to your posts remind my self when I read last night an info with typical to Puntos of second generation problems from AUTO DATA.
Now I own '04 punto,1.4 sporting and so far I'm trying to locate nocking noise comes from left front side of the car.
No fault on scan and comes on-off light apparently comes from bad connection under steering column.
To resolve it just need to take out button steering col. cower and unplugging with check of connector and plug in back should help.
May be worth to try....

On the topic of power steering, can a jolt to the front wheels while turning cause the light to come on?

Not sure on a jolt. Had the couling off today, and took motor off. Couldn see anything untoward. Only thing was a random wire, looks to come from ignition loom and taped to the plastic under the couling - I assume it has had an alarm fitted at some point.

With al the little niggles, he might be joining his other fiat friends soon.......
:(

what else..??

poor electrical supply is the #1 factor with PAS,

get the fault codes read too - before going too far,

Charlie - Oxford

Codes have been read - nothing there.

Battery has also been recently charged to no effect.

he little amber bulb also is on constantly (when lights are on!) but there is nothing wrong with any of the bulbs!

battery - charged / or CHANGED..?? batteries only work WELL for @ 3 years:(

amber bulb is saying lighting circuit is INCORRECT - often due to wrong wattage bulbs..
my sporting did this - the mk2 has an unusual tail light wattage;)
