Hi all

I am still looking for advise on the blinking EPS light. We had the column replaced last year by a Fiat Dealer as the torque sensors had gone but 3 or 4 weeks later the light started blinking for a split second. The dealer had it back and say it could have been the battery so it was changed but it did not cure the random blink of the EPS light.

Months on it would still randomly blink but can go for months without blinking. Eventually it went to the dealer for a independent wiring inspection but everything was fine and that the wiring earths had been cleaned etc and told that a speed sensor fault would not make the EPS light come on for a split second and cleared the fault again but twice the Speed sensor has come up on the diagnostic. Could the Speed sensor be the problem for a random blinking EPS light?

This light is driving everyone up the wall because it is so random. Haven't seen this light for months and last night EPS light blinked when slowing down and the light has blinked before when slowing down but not always when slowing down
Maybe there is a missing signal and makes the light blink for a split second. Everyone seems to be at a loss to know what is going on even the dealers. They just said if the light stays on then bring it straight to us but it is not saying on just blinking. I can't even catch it on a spy cam. been going on now for nearly 12 months :bang:

Thanks for reading.

When it was at the dealers they checked the battery and the alternator but the alternator was one of the faults along with the vehicle speed. they put the alternator fault down to the car not starting one afternoon (my fault) because I had some electrics on too long without turning the engine on and logged a fault and took about 4 times to start. says on the report that the volt is 14.13. We had the alternator tested when the EPS light was staying on and come back fine.

supposedly yes by the dealers everything was checked when they had it a month ago all wiring etc. I would have thought if it was a bad earth it would do it all the time and not so randomly.

It couid be just a 'ghost fault'.

I had something ''similar with my sporting..

Ever time I pressed the brake pedal ..air bag light flickerd on the dash...
Hugely annoying but..there was no fault with the airbags..

Sometimes the dash clocks can be faulty ...giving the impression something serious is wrong..

Just thought I'd mention this before you start chasing the fault..

Iripped half the car apart looking for something that wasn't there..:(

Yes, it could be something like that. Everyone seems to hit a blank. I thought by changing the column bye bye red light but no. It is so random. just blinks for a split second. I don't think the hole red light actually light ups. Only noticed as it was dark. Could the speed sensor/vehicle speed be at fault?
My mum says she will get an exorcist to get rid of the ghost fault lol

if the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) at fault - you'd get tempary loss of the speedo and assistance issues (heavy/super light)

Also a fault code would also be produced

Ziggy

No problems will the speedo at all and haven't noticed any issues with the steering. Car seems to be have normally. I slowed down for a roundabout and it blinked, I turned slightly to the left to follow the roundabout as going straight on and no loss or heavy/light steering at all. The fault code the Vehicle Speed Sensor was 5012 Vehicle Speed Present from CAN.
This showed up twice once when the battery was changed and was told could be battery related as well as the blink in the EPS light and when the dealers took the car for wiring check. Would it speed sensor cause the EPS light to blink though?

I have been searching everywhere to see what would cause the blink at random times. Can't find anything at all. Would it be worth changing the Vehicle Speed Sensor to rule it out? Been out in the car today, no EPS blink. We have a funeral to go to next week about an 80 mile around trip. Its worrying me silly even though the column been replaced.

Having no luck with the dealer. They say because the car's computer is not saying what the fault is and the red EPS light is not staying on there's not a lot they can do although the Speed Sensor comes up as a fault.
They mentioned wiring behind the dash but needs an auto electrician looking at it (but behind the dash would never have been touched while changing the column and dash was fine before) its already had an auto electrician looking at the wiring in their garage. I do not know what else to do apart from to think its a ghost fault and hoping the steering doesn't go again.

Intermittent problems are by nature hard to diagnose. I don't have any solid advice for you. But the steering assist is linked to the speed through the sensor, so it may be worth investigating that further.

Experts might be along soon with advice....
