July 2010 I had a fault on the steering displayed and ended up replacing the whole steering column.

Shortly after that I had the Fuel Injection error light displayed, I cleared the fault by disconnecting the battery to make sure that it kept happening and was not a one off. This has now happened 3 times so I bought a cheap error code reader – P0105 error reported.

The car starts with no problems. When driving on normal roads it's generally OK, the problem arises when I am driving on faster dual carriageways or motorways, when changing through the gears quickly the rev counter is excessive and there is a lack of power temporarily. The air filter is clean.

I took it in to a garage to have it “checked out” but told them not to replace the MAP sensor – but after talking to the (questionable) mechanic who told me he had “Sprayed air” and found no leaks, and he didn’t have a voltage meter so could not test the sensor itself and that I should buy a MAP sensor for him to fit.

So needless to say I have a few questions that I am hoping someone can help with.

  • Could there be any connection with the steering column being replaced and this fault?
  • Should I go ahead a purchase a MAP sensor – and is it OK to purchase a “used” sensor or buy new, and fit it myself?
  • What other test can I do myself i.e. clean sensors (limited car knowledge)
  • Should the diagnostics be more sophisticated i.e. take it somewhere else?

Many thanks
(There is not such thing as a stupid question only stupid answers.)

i wouldnt coz they aint cheap
i would do live data first followed by an emissions test and if map still came up as out of parameter then i might change it

of course there are two types too

I had the map sensor replaced and the problem appeared a little better and then the clutch seized and ruined the gearbox.

I have now had a new gearbox, whole clutch and flywheel replaced. Picked the car up yesterday took it out for a run today and the same error has been reported.

Does anyone have an suggestions?
