Sorry for being basic but I have bought a code reader and need to trace the ecu to plug into for a reading. Some threads say its in the engine bay and in 2 parts and some say behind the internal fuse box.
The engine management light stays on and I want to read the code to find the fault hopefully not the ecu itself. So which part of the ecu should I plug into for my codes.
Be gentle coz I am new.
Thanks......(y)

Thanks Adamcot,
found the plug in point as you said and 2 pending faults showed up.

1)P0136 .O2 Sensor Circuit malfunction(Bank 1 sensor 2)
2)P0141. O2 Sensor Heater Circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 2)

I have cleared both the faults and the Engine management light has gone off.

Should I be concerned about these 2 faults and replace some sensor and if so where is it?
Thanks....

yes its the lambda sensor. I would see if error re occurs first

02 sensor is the lambda sensor. I would see if error re occurs first.
it is screwed into the exhaust downpipe from the exhaust manifold. Looks like a spark plug.Just behind the radiator fan

Thanks Suz,
that makes sense. Went out tonight and the light came back on. So I will fit a new a lambda sensor and see if it cures the the faults.
Thanks for your speedy replies. Fiat wanted over £80 just to get a fault reading and an independant garage wanted about half that. Bought the tool on eblag for £24 and works on lots of other models as well. Its a U480 Can OBD 2 if anyone else is in the market and is simple to use. Its the codes which are difficult to pinpoint. You do get a book and CD with the code numbers though.(y)

just because a code is displayed it does not mean the fault is there...be warned!

In your case the heater circuit in lambda is open circuit and a new lambda is the only cure....assuming the wiring is ok.

Does sensor 2 mean its the rear lambda probe that is faulty and would I be right in saying that the front and rear probes on this model are exactly the same?

Bank 1 means as I understand that its from a 4 cyl and if the reading read sensor 1 it would be the sensor nearer the manifold. So say a V6 car could have 2 Banks and 4 to 6 sensors, some manifold end and some downstream pre cat.

The readings above I am guessing mean Bank 1 of cylinders and sensor 2 being the one downstream of the manifold.
Any thoughts anyone whether it would be a good call to replace the rear lambda instead of the front one with the readings above.
Thanks (y)
