i have a mk2 sporting with the 1.2 16v engine in it and have been having problems with it missfiring and the engine management light coming on and flashing only at certain times.

i have run a diagnostics on it and have come up with the code
P0302 cylinder 2 missfire detected

can anyone shed any light on this code, could it be the ECU or is it more likely to be the coilpack??

thanks

well yer read the error codes on the car then. and thats what it came up with.

do you know what that code is.
can it be the ECU or would there be more complicated codes than just cylinder 2 missfire if it was.

Start with the cheapest first.

Plugs
Leads
Coilpack

Or pay for a proper snap on/Fiat/similar diagnostic which may bring up the specific problem. But then again it may not, and new plugs and leads prematurely won't do anything but good for the car.

I had a similar misfiring problem with my MK1, it ended up being the plugs. When was the car last serviced? Usually it's not that much and when you remove the plugs to check usually the colour is an aid to whether there is a deeper underlying issue.

the plugs and leads have already been swapped and i am waiting for the coilpack to arrive. so if that doesnt work will have to be proper diagnostic.

had a service 2 month ago. but when i got the plugs out they were really rather black wheter its from the unburnt fuel or not i dont know but didnt look too good.

put new coil pack on yesterday, and guess what problem not solved.
so we read the codes again and it came up with the same P0302 cylinder 2 missfire
and also U1600 which is a fiat specific code as i have been told.

again please help

Hi,

U1600- Electronic key-immobiliser system fault.
U1601- C-Can line error (High speed CAN network)

i would persomally think your wasting your money getting the key checked out, i dodgy chip in the key wouldnt cause a misfire, like previous posts hvae advised try plugs, leads, first then id run a compression test

ps have you dipped the oil? i had a misfire it was petrol getting in the oil through fauloty injecter

hope this helps

well plugs leads and coil pack have been replaced. the oil i check fairly regular i will double check again though.

i know the key wouldnt cause the missfire thats just another code that popped up when doing the error codes for the second time. just thought id put it in same thread as it was easier.

ill haqve a check for injectors thanks for advise(y)

Agreed, key wouldnt cause the mis fire.

but I was also getting this fault code occasionally... dealer said its to do with the plastic bit which sits around the ignition barrel and picks up the signal from the key, used to de-activate the immobilizer.

Its not a definite fault but a sign that this plastic ring shaped component isnt always recognising the key.

but unless its causing any real ignition problems, ie starting the car I wouldnt worry about this error for the time being.

checked injectors today, still no joy injectors are all fine. but gave them a good clean anyway.

anymore ideas are very welcome please
