i took the vinyl off today, looks lush and if you do it carefully it hardly leaves any glue, and its not skanky like the one behind the door trim, next job is to colour code the mirrors, door handles and rear window plastic trim thingy and my car'll be fit :D

yeah looks loads better, look forward to doing mine soon, still peed off with my front bumper damage, i want the dumb tart of a solicitor to sort out my claim and get me some sort of compo, been driving around in a battered punto for ages now

the best way to do it is to hold a hairdryer about 10cm from it, peel off slowly from top to bottom, constantly heating it up.

FACT.

this way leaves no glue or anything.

do not argue.

and btw - i think it only looks good on black cars, as with any other colour it breaks up the lines of the windows and kinda looks a bit weird with one random like of colour down the car...

i foudn that the best way to do it, did both sides in under 15 mins left no glue. but someone before me i think my have tried to do this as after id taken it all off on the passanger side, there are a few deep scratches!! (n)(n):cry::cry:

still looks really good tho

matter of opinion, yeah it's random if you only take it off and leave rub strips on and black plastic, but i think if you follow it through by colour coding rear window plastic trim, handles door, mirrors and de-rubstripping etc. it looks buff

Looks great snapyoursticks. I really like it :D. I took the side strips off my mk1, but had a little trouble with it, because the paint was a diff colour, and t-cut wouldnt help. So i stuck them back on :( You think if i took it to a bodyshop, they would be able to take them off again, and sort the paint out?

Thanks si_pow, yeah if you took it to a bodyshop they would do anything you liked. Just depends on how deep your pockets are...

Id say to have the strips of dull paint sprayed and blended into the rest of the paintwork might be more expensive than its worth. Maybe bout 400 quid for both sides...

Had a front wing resprayed and blended a while back, cost be nearly 700

But you could always colour code the strips instead of taking them off, would have almost the same effect (y)

Yeaah thats what i was thinking. the thing is though, would it look ****? lol. im getting all the black bumper strips colour coded eventually anyways, so hopefully should be looking delishh :p

any one fancy giving some tips on how they done theres?
im looking at doing my wingmirrors and door handles and am looking for how u did it or any tips?..

Your cars look awesome!

Just take the wing mirror off, mask it up good and proper so you dont get any unwanted paint on the mirror/rubber bit. Then just sand it down with some high grade wet and dry, primer, 3 light coats of paint and 2 coats of lacquer. Oh and make sure you give teh paint 24 hours to dry before you lacquer it! (y)

well as promised!!

Looks fab!! :D Want to do this to mine but looked at it and the black looks like its too thin to be something that comes off easily :( is it likely that bit will come off? or is itt a thicker black panel that has come off? not sure if it will need painting instead  not had a go at taking it off yet though...
