Hi guys I am having a knightmare with the Wife's 1.2 8v punto 2000. We have had loads changed in the last month. NEw starter motor, water pump, pipes, thermostat and temperature sensor. Then last week we found oil leaking from engine and it seems that the oil sump needs to be replaced.

I go to start the car today to take it to the mechanics and it fails to start! All Dash Lights come on but it will not turn over. I turn the key and its just dead!

Would low oil stop the car from starting. Well its not even turning over but does the ECU stop you from starting if oil is low?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Just checked again and yes it does slightly dip the lights. The one thing I have just noticed though is a noise like a pulse under the bonnet when I turn the key. Not sure what it is but it happens all the time and its not done that before.

The battery is only about 4 months old so I doubt it would be that. I can her that sound on the first click when the lights on the dash come on.

Spot on Toad/Grande! I got some leads and plugged it into my VW golf and Straight away it started. I must have left something on over the weekend to drain the battery. To be honest it didn't sound like a flat battery but I was wrong

Thanks Guys, just the oil sump now ;-)

is there anything in the Mk2's that us idiots keep missing to switch off because like the creator of this thread my battery has suddenly died also and as far as i know nothing gets left on, is there any electrics that are hidden or hard to remember to switch off????

Yes I know the feeling, the only thing I could think of is the radio as its a non standard one which you can have on without the ignition on.

have had a few tall people head buting the interior light before now they changed the switch on later models

shut all your doors with everything off and place a 12v bulb between the battery terminal and car wiring if it illuminates you have a power drain somewhere

you can use one of your indicator bulbs for this test

I have a MK2 punto, and one thing ive noticed is that when i bought a new cd/dvd player it was constantly on.. It could go into standby mode, but not directly off, something to do with the earth apparently
so this might drain the batt.. i had that prob a few times

This is because its wired itno the origional radio loom which uses a constant live feed. It needs to be adapted so that it uses a ignition live (i.e. goes live when the igniton is switched on -> cig lighter)
