Hi fellow pandamonium owners

Any idea what can be done to 1.2 8v engine to give it a bit more power, instead of ripping it out and fitting a 100hp engine ?

Yea I know a 4x4 has all the extra groceries it drags along but seriously its a power lacker on our freeways even a 1000cc car passes me with a smile.

Any decent input will be appreciated Thanx! In advance

Hi, what year is the car..??,
they went form 60 to 69 Hp with a few tweaks,
making sure it's running PROPERLY would be my advice before spending a LOT:)

Mainly VVT (so not easily retrofitted). It was done for emissions, not performance - the apparent 9HP gain is a red herring.

And it spoilt the power curve - the 60HP engine actually produces more power & torque below 4000 rpm. There are plenty of folks who've been bitterly disappointed with the 69HP Euro5 Mk3. We won't even talk about the Euro6 version of this engine.

Unless you like revving the t**s off it, you're better off with the 60HP variant.

I'd say the cheapest and best way to increase the performance of a 1.2 Panda is to trade it in for a 100HP.

I think if you're not happy with it then nothing you can really do (whether it be bizarre modifications or not) aren't going to make it 'that much' faster regardless, but do run the risk of wearing the engine out faster - especially if they aren't fitted or done right. And if your Panda is over a few years old it's probably not going to help it much in terms of lasting into the future either.

As has been mentioned, perhaps ensure its all running well in its current state? New spark plugs, etc basic routine tune ups that can maintain its performance.

Myself and many other owners probably wouldn't have much to complain about the 1.2 8v engine in a car as small and light as the Panda - its quite spritely compared to some competitor cars.

Hi all

Thanks for the replies

Okay from what I've gotten it is a 2006-07-19 registration and to my feelings its a 30 hp engine, lol

I seriously wanted the 4wd version and enjoys her for that!
But on the road that underperforming is a pain in the heinie ?

I couldn't get a 100 hp with the low km's and in her nick too , I would have forked out double what I paid

And at that stage all I could afford too.

Thanks

You will get used to it, there is 0 point tuning a 1.2 panda other than keeping it healthy and maintained imho. If you want a faster car it's better to sell it and get a faster car.

My last car before I got a panda was Volvo 440 Turbo and i'd never owned a car so slow as the Panda before. Within a few weeks/ months I was fully used to it. Between 2 examples Ive had pandas for more than 8 years now.
