Hi guys, i've done a search in the panda section and not found what i wanted. Recently my Panda has been a bit reluctant to start, i found that turning the key to the first position and priming the fuel pump got round that and helped it start. When it wouldn't start, it sometimes threw up ABS failure.

Earlier i took her for a spin worrying it wouldn't get me to work tomorrow, probably about a two mile drive. I got in her about an hour later and it refused to start at all, i've left it a couple of hours since and tried again. It's now showing EBD failure (what's that? ) And i've tried so much to start it, i've drained the battery..

The car is due for a service in about two weeks, i hope it's nothing serious. Anyone have an idea?

Sorry if i missed something covered before. :(

Sorry i haven't replied yet, i've been a bit busy.
I took Jon's advice, figured it could only help.

But then realised my problem :bang:
Someone came to have a look for me as it still wouldn't start, i thought he might have to take it away to look at so used my spare key.

It started up fine
Even though my master key opens the doors, the immobilizer chip has lost its memory. I thought as it opened the doors it was fine

Now to see how much to fix it :p

Mhmmm, i do remember seeing prices on here. Looks like i'm at Fiat either tomorrow or the day after, although i can use my manual key. I know it'll be expensive, i thought usually it'll be the entire key that dies? Maybe not so important right now, i know i can start it anyway.. so no rush, but does my master remote key have the master code?

(Off topic in this section, the guy that came to see my Panda and try to take it away apparently had a son with a mk2 sat in a field.. ) Might as well ask his if it is roadworthy, or breaking for my mk2 .

The remote and immobiliser are different systems, so sounds right what has happened.

Fiat should charge around £15+vat for the vehicles code (made sure you keep it as well for future reference) and then I think it's around £40 for the recoding of the key to the vehicle, assuming the key immobiliser unit isn't completely USed (y)

If a FIAT dealer / specialist isn't local , most good locksmiths now do key re-coding ( you'll need your CODE card/number though),
as a guide my sons PUG key was re-chipped and coded to the car for £60,

I hope that helps,
Charlie

Hopefully i'll go to our (only) dealer tomorrow and see what options i have. I did think about keeping the remote key and buying just another manual, although not my ideal solution and would effect resale. Another worry is that, if i go like for like i may end up with a red badged black key?

Well whether i go tomorrow or the day after, (when i can find time) i'll tell you guys how much it's gonna sting

I can't complain, in as long as i've had the car this is my first problem (y)

i'm not sure with the Panda as i've never done a key for 1 but with a lot of keys the immobiliser chip isn't fixed into the remote circuit board so if you can find a local locksmith they can just pop another chip into the remote & program it to the car. For this method you would need the pin code.

If you haven't got the pin code then you could do what i did for a customer tonight. The transponder in his clio remote is built into the remote circuit board & on that shape clio it's common for them to fail. They start to work intermitently so the car won't always start.

I cloned the chip & just popped it in the remote case. He also bought a a new remote case with blade so i cut him the blade & cloned another chip for the new case so he had a spare key. Cost him £50 all in.

I generally don't clone chips that often as i prefer to program them diagnostically as it gives the new chip it's own transponder id but sometimes it's the only way i can do it if the pin code isn't available

oh & the chip in the 2002 onwards panda key is a id46 chip which is cloneable

not sure if i can sense a hint of sarcasm in that! lol! but yeh, most transponders can be removed from remotes. I do it on a regular basis with customers buying 2nd hand remotes off of ebay thinking that it will just program straight in to their car. The majority of the time the remote can be reprogrammed but the transponder can't so i just replace it for them

It's a slightly different thing with a basic transponder key because the only way to remove it is to butcher the plastic case to get it out. Not really worth it in the end as non remote transponder keys are cheap anyways

Hi guys, as my Panda was due a service anyway, i've booked her in for a silver service tomorrow and theyre going to see if they can re-program the key. That'll cost £45, if it doesn't work then i'll have to think about a new key.

Will let you know the outcome (y)

(and price.. )

Had fun racing my dad's Mjet all the way to the dealer, was interesting seeing how they compare :slayer:

The immobiliser 'capsule' can be removed

Reminds me of, me and a mate on our hands and knees scouring the gents in a public convenience after he dropped his astra key dressed in Lycra cycling gear.... got some rather funny looks  but we found the capsule in the end
