I have discussed this before but don't remember clearly. I'd like to hear the sound of my Panda 1.2 without the air filter. I just loved the sound of my previous car Escort with direct air cooling device. It is raining, so there should be less dust in the air and I'd like to drive just one mile or so to hear the sound. It seems such a short time and with the damp, relatively clean air should not harm the engine at all. But what about the computer / will the engine computer get confused and I mess up something after removing the filter, driving a bit and then putting the air filter back?

I would advise against running any car without proper filtration, I know that a lot of small particals may get burnt during combustion, but it would be too risky. Still its your engine and your money

even if I just start the engine without going anywhere, right, i agree, it is too risky

i will never hear the original sound of the engine, :(:(:(

the alternative intake system for panda seems kind of funny, and not sure if it will give me the sound I want that I got when I installed a cone foam air intake filter to my Escort / that was sound from heaven it gave me goosebumps

somebody here advised that I drill holes into the plastic air intake box but don't know if the guy was joking probably was

I have driven cars for thousands of miles without air cleaners when i was younger, Mk 1 Fiestas, Fiat 127's etc. Bloody hell mate, dont worry, that volcanic ash will not write your engine off :). Relax it's a petrol engine not the Hadron Collider ( mind you that aint reliable).
I have also driven my Panda without the air cleaner and it is just damn noisy, that's all.
Try it, you will soon get bored.

if you want the induction roar then just stick a cone filter on.

you shouldnt do any damage if you take it off and just rev it abit to hear it. just make sure there isnt any debris in the airbox before the filter or near it when you do it.

o and socks dont make air filters(y)

the best induction noise ive ever heard was on a 1 litre lupo. it had the throttle body taken off to be replaced with a working one and the fuel line that connected to the thottle body was sort of aiming into the manifold

anyway friend got into the car and tried to start it cos hes an idiot and the engine roared into life created the best induction roar (or atleast the loudest) ever for about 2 secs, then shut the engine off

Seriously you need to hear/go in some better cars! I had a very nice induction noise on my old 2.3 Firenza running twin 45 dellortos. Sounds just like an S1 Esprit.

Or my old DC2 ITR was pretty good when in VTEC ie abover 6-8.5K rpm. For induction noise, throttle bodies or twin dellortos/webers are hard to beat. I had a ride in a Miura SV with 6 twin down draught dellortos feeding a 4 litre V12 right behind my head! That sounded good!

we are talking about induction noise, I guess, then

i remember the Escort didn't even sound louder or different, only when I hit the accelerator it sounded EVIL and the noise reminded me of some race cars, but not sure what kind of, think rally cars

Try an aftermarket filter, pipercross/K&N for noise.
The best car I've recently been if for noise was a seat ibiza 1.4 td. amazing sound!
