Hello Everyone

I just recently asked where the extra 2 speakers on the stereo upgrade for the 100hp are and was kindly informed that this option separates the tweeters. The tweeters are located by the door handle and replace the small imitation speaker covers already there.

I've found a suitable under seat Blaupunkt active subwoofer but also want to upgrade the speakers.

My question is – can I/has anyone put in tweeter units in this location in order to upgrade the standard speaker system and if so, what make/model were they?

One more point - the technical spec. of the standard 100hp Blaupunkt CDMP3 player it states it only has a maximum 4 x 30 watt power output. I don’t really want to change this head unit so will I be ok to add two tweeter speakers to it?

Many thanks in advance.

PaulBfd is the man for this.

But you won't be running the tweeters off the header unit as much.

They will be a crossover unit to separate the mid range and high range and will be powered from the headunit.

So, the 2 feeds goes from the headunit to the crossover and from there is 4 outputs, + and - for the mid and + and - for the tweeter.

(Long time since I did any car audio so don't take that as gospel!)

I had them in mine, front and back, they were fusion units but you can get all sorts, as dave said, the head unit wires feed to a crossover (smallish box) from there wires go to the main speaker and the tweeter. If you want to mount the tweeters in the blanks I'd suggest a dremel type tool to make the hole neatly. :)

I assume the handle area is the same as the "lower" pandas.... If so, heres my Active with some tweeters fitted....

As mentioned above, all I did was cut out the plastic with a dremel and the tweeters came with spring mounts which just push in. The speaker kit came with a crossover which I fitted to the back of the door card and I used the original wiring that goes into the door.

Many thanks to all.

Mjb, what 'speaker kit' did you use?

Thanks again.

The speakers I fitted were just cheap & cheerful Boschman 13cm, but a huge improvement on the factory set up! I forgot to mention that to fit the 13cm speaker I "recycled" the original speakers and used them as a mounting bracket.

So your car was fitted with tweeters from new and you replaced then with those on the picture ? Was the standard ones bad ?
Where did you buy them ?

There wasn't any there when the car was new, the plastic trim just looked like a speaker grill but was solid.

Tweeters aren't standard unless you opt for them on the 6 speaker upgrade.

Another tip, choose the mounting position for the cross over carefully, there is room to mount it on top of the foam in the front doors, (may differ by manufacturer) the rears are more tricky, speaker adapters for the front main speaker are available from www.bluespot.co.uk, I cut out the paper rear speakers and used a dremel to smooth the aperture and fit the new speakers (saves another set of adaptors)
