Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

It seems the gearbox in the 1.3 Multijet Panda is not even rated to take the `standard` torque of the engine in other models. It seems they had to `detune` the torque to use the Panda gearbox.
There is a thread about it somewhere where someone found the actual box and its torque rating.

You can see this here
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carrevi...iat_panda.html

http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews...e-1004824.html

The Panda produces 145NM of torque
Punto van 180NM of torque

Same engine but different applications.

Different gearbox though, engine de tuned for the Panda. Point is, the box is not rated even for the standard ( other applications) engine torque, let alone an increase.

Regards

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

i am aware of this problem.. but it says that the box is only made for 145nm but it can hold more than that. i am looking into getting a stronger box either by uprating the old or getting another.
I think its the driver that breaks the box, + torqe. not so mutch the hp.
and also the way it gets the hp an momentum if its like on off its harder on the box .. i think well im gona find out.

my friend feks makes 160hp and 235nm on his fiat punto 1,2 16V standard gearbox. so that will hold and i think i can mount that on the panda.

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

yes good luck indeed, but i would be wary - seems far better to take the 105 from the angeltune remap - we've had that done on our multijet sporting and the performance change is impressive - we're talking 100hp power here, with a lot more torque.

i wouldnt want to put any more on without changing the whole package - ie suspension, brakes etc - and the cost of that would make the project ridiculous.

trust me, 105hp with the corresponding torque increase, is more than enough for the 1.3mj!

I doubt it. Its the same 6 speed gear box thats on my 2005 Punto mk2b Sporting 1.4 16v which is only putting out about 110bhp/115bhp at the most and it keeps breaking .

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

I've run 143lb/ft through the mk2 1.2 16v box for a year, and when running higher boost over 150lb/ft

the 6 speed box will fit the panda, but it is slightly longer. so fitting maybe a bit tight.

Personally I would think the clutch will slip before the gearbox packs in. as this is what happened with my mk2 punto (new clutch lasted approx 6months)

You could possibly change the flywheel for the smaller 8v one then use the OMP paddle clutch as this is what i did. -pick up is a bit more aggressive but still very driveable.

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

I'm watching any threads about tuning the 1.3 MJT with interest as mine is coming up to three years old in March '08 and will be out of warranty then. It is also likely to need new tyres and possibly a new clutch as it will also have done about 35 K miles by then. With that in mind, a stronger clutch may as well be fitted instead of a standard one; (cost, anyone?) maybe I will also fit 175 tyres on factory option 5J alloys; (will they fit ok anybody?) and maybe some new springs/shocks. Hopefully, if other people's projects work, I'll try it myself.
On the subject of slipping clutches I was on holiday in the U.S. a couple of years ago when I got talking to a guy who arrived outside the hotel in a Dodge Ram pick-up. He said the diesel in it (a Cummins 5.9 litre straight 6) had been re-mapped and he was having problems with the clutch slipping. When I asked him what the figures were now, he said it had been dynoed at 390hp (up from 250-ish) and now had a torque rating of 1050 ft/lbs. I don't know why he was surprised.

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

I am looking to tune one of these engines as well. I am looking for over 100bhp as well. Would be interested to hear from any one who has done this.

Re: turbo upgrade panda 1,3

Folks, thats 40% plus increase of power which sounds like an expensive project to me:

- engine
- gearbox
- tires + wheels
- clutch
- suspension
- cooler
- ...

On the other hand, I'd love to do something like that myself - its all about passion! Good luck with it!

+ uprated brakes. The trouble is once you modify one thing, then you have to modify everything else to suit, or it keeps breaking. It really is surprising how the costs just spiral away and before you know it, you've spent 3K that you'll never recoup.

Years ago i extensively modified a mk1 mr2. I had a supercharger conversion done to it, that was 3.5K... boy did it shift... by the time i'd finished, i had spent over 7K.
