General Panda Cross on new Fifth Gear

Not sure but it's getting on. The switch from 5 to Discovery to History is a shame though :(

This seems a most illogical switch - like the History Channel has any alignment to a modern motoring show?! The PR blurb says how "thrilled they are to have this flagship show that is well suited to the content they are looking to provide", but it took me ages to find that as Discovery website still has 5th Gear all over it and even claimed to have a new season starting on Feb 24th - without mentioning the year....

It really is a shame that 5th Gear is being pushed from pillar to post as it is very good and needs back on mainstream TV like C4 or similar.

However, now I know it's there I look forward to watching it!

Remember the original test they did with the Old 4x4 versus at Range Rover??

Didn't know 5th gear was still going! Not much point putting a topical motoring programme on an obscure (it is to those with Freeview - i.e. most of the population) history channel!! Used to like that - can you get it anywhere without a subscription?

Mk3 Panda (which should have won) :

Only on Sky? Shame if so.

I remember that old challenge between the RR and the Panda.

If only when they do these challenges they would put in an obstacle that would allow only a narrow car through, requiring the wider one to take a longer route. Not unreasonable!

Yes, not got sky.....and probably never will have LoL

Hope it does make YouTube . I notice Auto Express have a Cross on long term test and the first update was in this week's mag, very complimentary. Seems they have already had their TomTom nicked?

Not a fan of Auto Express or What Car for that matter, worthy of the smallest room for emergencies but this report seemed fair enough for a change.

I noticed that too, I get it downloaded free to my iPad curtesy of our local library.

I watched it the other day, the show has no life in it and fails on so many levels. Tries to do silly tests to make it look cool and moderne. The Indian host was so wooden.

I would like to see just a nice car review show with reviews, like you see on youtube from carbuyer and whatcar

I too would like to see reviews of cars done in a no nonsense fashion.

I have not seen Fifth Gear in years but the last videos I did see on YouTube with Jason PLato, VBH et al were just plain silly. It seemed that they were trying to ape Top Gear.

Top Gear is no longer a programme about cars, it is an entertainment programme that features cars.

Remember the old days of Top Gear with Chris Goffey doing a worthy, if dull, presentation on the latest Japanese import, or even Jeremy Clarkson (with hair) talking sense?

The problem nowadays is that it's mostly style over substance, and an over reliance on featuring pointless supercars.

(Blimey- I just read that and it makes me feel old!)

Fifth gear have started uploading all the old episodes onto their YouTube channel. They're currently uploading series 3. Unfortunately, they're still a long way from reaching the episode which features the Grande Punto, lol! There's loads of 80s and 90s top gear clips on YouTube too! I still love watching them, even though I've seen them all before, lol! :)

I do that as well, some great early Clarkson videos.

Interestingly enough, Clarkson writing in the Sunday Times this weekend makes the point that the Golf GTI is actually the only car any petrol-head needs and that the new Fiasco Zetec S 'Red' or 'Black' editions with the 138bhp 3-cyl 1000cc EcoBoost engine are quite possibly the best vehicles on sale anywhere. His writing reflects much more of his true feelings than the TV show does now, I am sure.

Lees is so much more these days, but we've all known that for years of course(y)

I'd rather the BBC made a proper motoring programme rather than that light entertainment tat - let ITV/Sky pay for the silly wages it requires. It's barely different to Last of the summer wine - three old(ish) blokes makes ****s of themselves.

I'd also rather they dumped Clarkson and bought someone unknown and knowledgable at less money. But they won't. It's all very tired.
