Hi All,

I would like to know what the cambelt interval is and what needs to be replaced when doing the cambelt service.

My car is a 2009 Palio 1.2
It is due for its 100 000km service.

Regards

Chris

I know that mine is not a Palio, but here's a question someone might be able to help with.
On my 1050cc Fiat 127, I have changed the cambelt. (engine out of car, not yet refitted).
After fitting I followed the Haynes manual and turned the engine two revolutions backwards before tightening the tensioner. But the Intereurope manual, and others, say turn it one revolution forward to set the tensioner.
Which one is correct?

I have always turned any Fiat/Alfa engine 1-2 full crankshaft rotations foreward, before tightening....
I remember finding the correct timing marks on my former Fiat 127 Panorama 1300 Diesel was a bit difficult to see, don't know about the 1050 engine though...
(I may have an original Fiat workshop manual for the 127 laying around somehere, will have a look later this evening for it.)

Well, no original workshopmanual, but a 127 partsmanual....
Anyway, I found a Dutch Olyslager vraagbaak for the 127 1977-1984, that covers the 1050 engine.
Olyslager vraagbaak is more or less a Dutch translation of the original Fiat workshop manual, so very accurate imo.
After reading it, it seems that your Haynes manual is right in turning the engine BACKWARDS...!!
Olyslager says:

"remove sparkplugs, and rotate engine backwards"( it does not say how many turns though).

"Tighten spanner"

"let engine run until operating temps"

"remove sparkplugs, put car in 4th gear, loosen spanner, push car backward some meters(yards), tighten spanner, put sparkplugs in"

Done.

Hope this helps.
