Hi there,

'03 1.9JTD Diesel LHD

When I had the Doblo serviced in Feb it was squealing when the steering was pulled to the left. The garage sorted it (I think they changed a belt) and they showed me a tensioner was seizing but was ok to leave it until next time as I was doing limited mileage.

Only done 4000 miles since, The noise has started again but I'm in Austria working..

Any ideas?

It would be useful to know what the fault might be to help describe to the local village mechanic (rather than be fiddled)

and I'm driving back to the Uk soon..only about 1000 miles home so should I chance it and get it done with my usual UK garage whom I trust?

This novice appreciates your expert advice..cheers!

This is at the simple end of garage fixes. If a local garage can't fix that then they would not be much of a garage. When we had our family garage hardly a week would pass when you didn't see this in winter.

The fact that it only happens when cold suggests its just a belt slipping. They all have adjusters and although I haven't looked at a JTD, on virtually every car I have come across this on its a 10 minute job at worse to fix, assuming the belt is not damaged. They rarely are damaged as they are simply slipping on cold mornings coz they are not tight enough. Rarely and I do mean rarely it might mean a mechanical fault with the alternator, water pump, power steering, or an idler pulley

Thanks but any idea what it is specifically? - To help me instruct the garage..as I say noise happens when pulling steering to the left or first clutching after starting up?

it does sound like a slack / poorly tensioned belt ( Auxilliary belt / Fan belt as they used to be) full lock puts extra load on it,
ask in the Doblo section ( bottom of main list)
for a more detailed "how-to",

IF it is only a loose belt , and is quiet when all is warmed-up then yes it would be o.k. to drive home

Thanks again chaps..

Got the local mechanic to listen at startup.. He says it's the clutch sticking and will need replacing. See what I mean about diagnosis? Ho hum, back to UK and I'll have it all sorted with the service. Maybe will be towed home through europe?!
