Hi!

I’m a newbie and could use some advice on our camper van please :)

We have a 2002 fiat Ducato Motorhome but the engine is making a screaming noise. It’s done it in the past infrequently but now it’s getting more often and louder too. I’m sure when it’s been to the garage before they told me it hasn’t got a fan belt?
I’ve attached a video of our recent trip and as you can hear it gets louder then suddenly stops, it’s worse when you first start the engine.

Any advice is appreciated

Thank you

Tracy

Hi and welcome :)

Fan belts..as such are no longer fitted

BUT.. the alternator will still be belt driven

Open the bonnet
On the UK DRIVERS side of the engine will ne a black plastic cover

That is hiding the timing belt : cambelt :)

In the same area .. but maybe nearer the ground
I suspect you can see a rubber belt quite plainly.. going to a ' metal bodied electric motor' ( your alternator )

If your Squeaky squeal happens regularly..

Try stopping the engine

Spraying some WD 40 At the belt.. ideally at the ribbed inner side..not the smooth outside ;-)

Then restart engine..

IF the squeak has now gone ...
its probably time for a new belt ;-)

Do let us know what you find :)

Sounds like a slipping auxiliary drive belt .
Aux belt turns alternator, power steering pump , water pump etc

May just need new belt or belt and tensioner and or guide pulleys
