Anyone tell me if and where there's an easy place to feed the cable to power an amp through the bulkhead?

ln a word, no. I tried to find one when I wanted a direct connection from the battery for an inverter.
Had the lower centre console trim off and underneath the car and couldn't find any blanking plates which surprised me as I was expecting to find something, the Multi is normally L/H drive and should have some redundant holes.

If I don't get a useful answer, I'll have a look once my knee is better.

I'll report back what I find.

I need mine to power a ham radio that's remote mounted in the boot.

If the radio is in the boot, why not run a cable externally underneath, down the bulkhead and along (or in) the chassis rails, there are plenty of places with attachment potential.
Would need a fuse immediately after the battery but boot access is fine from underneath, quicker than searching for the holy grail of a bulkhead access point and then having the trim up to run the cable.

Then you'd have 4 months searching for a hole to get the cable into the boot.

Don't you already have a power out 'plug~in' in the NSR wall of the boot ?. Both of mine have. The outlet is live only when the ignition key is in the "ON" position (MAR?) I can't REM what the output is but its a totally different figure than the 'standard' cigarette lighter output

How big / power is the amp ?

Brilliant point. I never thought of that and I have used it myself to run the kids dvds in the back. I would go and look to see if there is a rating on the cover but The boot will be full of prams and junk.

They are rated at 180w so presumably will be fused at 15amp (15a x 12v = 180w), if that helps. I run a 170w 12v kettle off of of mine and although the plug in connetor gets very hot, I've never had any problems with it.

Also I have run cables to take control of the rear interior lights and inside the car, the plastic covers over the door entrances on the floor, conceal hidden wiring really well, front and back. Take one off and have a look. I know this doesn't help your bulkhead query, but will help if you use the boot space.

Use [ example only ] flat cable and run it :

- straight up the middle of the floor under the carpet, or ;
- straight from boot to wherever under the plaggy bits near the doors

Why not just take the power from the main fuse box in the dashboard , normally a fused spare should be available, failing that the idea of going under the car is the easist route and easily removed too if needs be.

Hi JTD. When I was looking for power for an auxiliary switched live 12v socket I really struggled to find a fused spare. Everything appeared to be in use. (however, I'm no expert....) I gave up in the end and used a permanent live, (I found a thick red wire in with fuses), fused it in-line at 7.5 amp and left it at that.

I believe that the wire I used is a permanent live to the fan. Not sure which fan but as it's a permanent live I can only assume it's the rad fan (which will need a permanenet live).

Anyway, a quick poke about with a test meter and cross referencing to the handbook fuse diagram, will soon find it. It's a very obvious thick red wire.

Hope this hlps.

Not really. I have a towbar on both my Multiplas, so I did exactly what he suggested and fed the cable up through the grommet used for the towbar electrics.

The amp and the radio can both draw up to about 20 amps each. Although only one would be able to draw that at a time (you can't transmit on the radio with the stereo blaring!).

It's always preferable to take power for a transciever straight from the battery. It prevents stray RF from affecting parts of the car's electrical system - especially when it's as high powered as most HF amateur radios like this one.
