For quite a while now my Multipla JTD has had a tendency to judder as I pull away in 1st (or any other gear for that matter). I'd like to fix it.

It seems worse when the car has been parked up for a few days. There's a small oil leak that emerges at the bottom of the clutch bellhousing. Nothing serious as the oil level remains the same month after month, but there's certainly some oil floating around in the vacinity of the clutch. If I ride the clutch and get it nice and warm with high-ish revs, the judder seems to be less bad immediately afterwards. Maybe it's because I've burnt the oil off.

I'm wondering if a leaky crank output or gearbox input shaft could dribble its' way onto the flywheel or friction plate. Any ideas/suggestions?

Gearbox or engine oil level? I've got the same weeping at the bottom of the bell-housing and it's difficult to tell if it's gear or engine oil.
I ended up draining and measuring gearbox oil (which was within parameters), worth doing if the state of my gear oil is typical.

I've noticed clutch judder on a couple of occasions but not consistent enough to worry about, when it goes I'll replace the oil seals as matter of course.

we have exact same with ours just a warning though just be careful with the judder as one time it did it it shook the engine and snapped off the battery off completley had to do a bit of diy to fix it

Ours has started to do this too, and also had a very slight oil leak from the gearbox.

It seems worse in the morning when the car is cold, but revving it very slighty more as you get to the bite seems to cure it. The clutch on ours is fairly new (it's the car that user bikesforme replaced the clutch on - there is a thread about it on here) but you do ocassionally get a very slight burning smell from it. I know it's not my driving as I've never toasted a clutch (previous JTD had 224lb-ft and was on it's original clutch after 140k miles) so perhaps your theory about a tiny bit of oil seeping through is correct?

The oil leak prob from the rear main seal. and the Judder is more likely the duel mass flywheel ( expensive ) . the leak from the rear main seal normally doesnt go onto the clutch. Unless the input shaft seal is leaking which is highly uncommon .

I have a crankshaft pulley for sale if you want to try that route.
Changed mine while was doing all the belts etc...the rubber seems in good condition.
Just incase you'd want to save some money in case its not the problem...

I've been following that thread and wondered if it could be related. The pulley looks in good enough condition on mine. I'd be interested to know why Alpitlum changed his even though it looked OK.....

As for the DMF being the culprit, I'm not sure. If it is on the way out, wouldn't it also show up as drivetrain shunt if you stab the throttle quickly? There's no hint of that on mine.

Judging by the comments here, it's a common problem. Nothing serious, just a bit annoying. That said, it would be nice to work out the cause (and a cure).

I changed mine because I had clutch judder type symptoms and a rattle coming from the crank pulley when it was idling. On inspection it looked fine but was obviously shot.
