I'm sure there was a thread where someone had a similar problem, but I can't find it.

My multipla has developed an annoying problem. 9 times out of 10 when you unlock the car with the key the doors unlock and then they immediatly lock themselves again. You have to do the locking motion and locking motion several times before they stay unlocked. Holding the key in the unlock position sometimes works in keeping them unlocked but you can feel force on the key when it tries to lock again so don't like doing it. This is all from the drivers side. The passenger side doesn't seem to always work at unlocking all doors. Similarly when use the alarm button, it doesn't always lock/unlock all doors.

Has anyone any ideas?

Also they boot button on the tailgate has stopped working and drivers window doesn't automatically close all the way when hold down button. Could these be related?

When some door is not fully closed, the car unlocks by it self when locked.

I would guess the door switch is causing the problem.

rj, Has your battery gone flat or have you interupted power recently?
I used to have a vauxhall carlton some years back and if you disconnected the battery you would have to re-program the electric windows. All this involved was selecting the windows up and holding the switch in that position for 5 seconds after the window was fully closed. Maybe the same sort of thing. Got a Multi now though (my 4th Fiat) and I love it.
Hope this is some help

Check that the lock knobs on each of the doors can more freely. I had a similar problem a while back where one of the back ones was sticking. A bit of WD40 and moving it up and down for a while sorted it.

Thanks for all your advice. I seem to have cured it but not sure what was the problem. I cleaned and lubricarted all door latches, took off the the front door cards and lubricated moving parts and wd40'd the door lock buttons. This also cured the tailgate not wanting to open with either the button on the boot or button by handbrake.
