I found with winter tyres last year the grip wasn't all that much better than standard so a set of socks for when it's really bad isn't a bad idea at all. I can also easily get the train to work if needs be so that's also another cheaper option that £600 for a set of winter tyres I'll use for 2 months

It's not been bad enough to use the Mazda ones other than a test fitting last year but the swift ones got my arse out of a jam time and again. Several times where they saved me a lot of digging although if you're travelling in deep snow the additional grip plus the drag of pushing the snow can make the clutch get a bit smelly.

Definitely worth having in the boot to chuck on if you get stuck.
