This has been a bit of a crap weekend for Fiat owners.

Friday a Fiat 500 was involved in a collision with a Police car in Norwich. (I don't know if that ones in the news I've been asked to help with the investigation)

A Fiat driver was killer on the A140 after a collision with a sugarbeet truck.

Take care out there guys.

The Norwich incident has made the news.

Quite a bit of momentum there. Oooppphhhh!

Indeed.

It's actually quite hard to get somebody out of a car on it's side, having once done it myself. Not only do you risk the car toppling back on to you but it's surprising how heavy a car door is to open when you have to lift it upwards.

Looking back I would personally probably have waited until help arrived in the form of the Emergency services especially if the person wasn't in any real further danger or seriously injured.

Given that the main Norwich City centre police station is only about 1/4 of a mile away up grapes hill, it wouldn't have taken long for other police cars to get there.

Doesn't look like the 500 belonged to the woman, looks like the ones belonging to a local business.

The other accident

And if they're not crashing they are getting into trouble in other ways

My services on the test track next weekend are not required. :(

The car was not at fault.

And if the car was at fault what would a test track show? And why would a test track even be needed?

In addition why would the police have used you when they have a huge number of highly qualified police specialist drivers they can use, the same people who would need to present to collect evidence anyway?

Similar to last year when a certain Police Service wrote off a couple of WRX's in a week and the rest of the fleet were grounded until it was established that th drivers were pillocks.

As this can't go further off topic. I help out the emergency services when I can testing vehicles and stuff. Nothing official but it makes a change from the office. ;)

That sounds all very vague to me. Normally the emergency services have very stringent collision investigation procedures not least because of the evidential requirements placed upon them by the courts.

I am still curious about your specific role in collision investigation as a result, just what is it please?

Thanks.

I just so happened to be attempting to go up Grapes Hill just after it happened, the other police units were only just arriving - and I think you'd have had less of a response for a terrorist attack in central Norwich.

Couldn't work out who was at fault though and who had come from where and hit who. It was strange seeing the police car on its side, with no lights on, just the hazards flashing away, and someone standing on the side of it trying to get in / out of the car.

Surprising just how heavy car door are when you've got their full weight against you.

I got your PM Liquid Knight but don't see why you don't post it's content in the forum.

I didn't get a PM, however my eldest Brother is high up in Norfolk Police (y) I know for a fact they are perfectly capable of testing their own cars especially as they need to test them in active duty, usually (with Norfolk at least) a manufacturer will give them a fully liveried car for 6 months or so in the hope that it might result in an order, from the other side the police put it into active duty and try to destroy it as its not there car and they don't have to pay for it if it goes wrong, as for investigating accidents they have have the 'Serious Collision Investigation Unit' made up of very experienced traffic officers, they also have the Norfolk and Suffolk joint run Road Traffic Justice Unit which deals with less minor incidents, hence why I am very skeptical of the above claims (n)

Most incidents if needed would be investigated at the scene, with vehicles if required, accident damaged cars are looked at in the garage for defects and failures, maybe a similar car will be used (acquired from a number of sources) if a test needs to be performed but this is done under forensic test conditions by a police driver who will have to back up everything they do with statements submit-able to the courts or coroner.

I declare Waltism

Especially with gems like this in the past
One of the runners cars hadn't turned up, Paul (Walker) and Vin (Diesel) had to get to the next location. My mate Mark and I had to go as well so we gave them a lift in the back of a prop' Vauxhall Astra Police Car wearing full Met' uniform.
We stopped at a set of traffic lights on the North Circular and an Audi A3 was in the next lane. The driver was on the phone so I pipped the horn to get his attention and made a hand gesture for him to hang up. The driver dropped the phone on his lap, looked in the back, did the most perfect double take I have ever seen. The "Oh my God!" face kept us laughing the rest of the way there.

Most Easterly Pandas you're always in Norwich lol I was trying to work it out from the picture I wondered if the 500 was coming down the hill while the police car was heading at speed along Dereham Road this was my best guess but it really wasn't clear.
Ironically I saw the same Fiat 500 driving down grapes hill last week so I suspect it was the same driver
