Hi folks,
first off let me say what a cracking site this is, although i only justregisterd i been picking info and tips for the past couple of years..
i have on my hands a fiat grande punto diesel 1.3 multijet 2007 plate, there were few issues which gradually got all sorted, but 1 issue was the tailgate button would not work and i had to manually open the boot from the back sit and push the little button on the side. Also the light of open door / tailgate was constantly on. I found that all the wires on the connectors were broken off, infact no stop top light and no functioning of the rear wiper, so i reconected the wires and the wiper and the top rear brake light work again. But not the tailgate opening button ! so i checked the wires again all good, and went to inspect the actual lock mechanism which was found greenish corriosion on the pins, i went to get a second hand one, fitted it, and the open door / tailgate warning light finally come off, but the tailgate still wont operate! but you fcan hear some clicking when you press the dashboard button, my mechanic plugged his diag tool in and it come up with "Tailgate Actuator Relay Faulty or stuck... cant remember exactly" so i went on to listen and to look for this bloody relay, the clicking seem to come from the body control module, i managed to get hold of a s/h control module in the hope that once opened a relay would just pull off for swap... but this is not the case, since its all soldered in.... and my understanding is that the body control module is coded to ecu. So now my options are 1) i desolder the correct relay from the s/h board.. but i dont know which 1 it is , or 2) swap the whole body control unit but ... is there a way to virginise the body control unit? please advice if any1 can this car is driving me crazy! :bang:
i am a bit lost here and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

if that can help here's the diagram for the tailgate opener ...
Before destroying the body computer, I would double check the wiring and confirm continuity between it and the last connector. I hope you already checked the fuse ??

many thanks for the reply, i have solved the issue by selling the car as it was. lol
its a shame it was a lovely car with the dual sunroof and glass top, just had been too abused and neglected from previous owner.

yes i did check the fuses, i also found the broken wires between tailgate and car ... (common failure) and i am positive it needed the bcm but with the reprogramming it was simply not worth it. i buy sell cars, after replacing driveshaft, links, bottom engine mounting, tailgate lock and so on... i decided to let it go for a small profit.

My 2009 grande Punto had a similar fault but it was the wiring loom going from the top left of the body into thetailgate. The car has done 199,940 kms and is 10 years old. Another contributor said he took it to a local garage who resoldered the wires which solved the problem. I live in Sardinia so rainfall is not a problem. Hope this helps...

Cold will have certainly caused the problem in your case

No corrosion caused by salt either. The only real danger are the small shabby doddery old Pandas driven by small shabby doddery old men, for whom indicators are an optional extra and lane discipline is an ill-understood and less practised Black Art. Apart from that...
