Car = 2006 Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 16v Sporting

So after my car going flat quite a few times this past month, I decided to replace the battery today from Halfords. I had to jump start the car in order to drive there. Halfords fitted it and basically replaced it with the same version.

To note, after the jump start everything worked fine with no warning lights as it never usually does.

After the new battery was fitted, i turned the engine on and I had no power-steering, the dashboard was displaying warnings for ESP, ASR, power steering, Hill Holder. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Was I wrong to replace the battery in advance?

Thanks in advance.

Check alternator and cables condition.

The earths and cables seem fine. Alternator was replaced a couple of months back..

Just a thought, have you checked the main fuses that are attached to the positive terminal? I replaced my battery a couple weeks back when I bought the car and I had similar issues, replaced these and the issues were solved.

Yes, none of the fuses were blown.

I was talking complete rubbish though. The negative earth cable further down was disintegrating pretty much. I realised this after I took it back to Halfords lol. The guy at Halfords pretty much just snapped it off.

He then replaced the cable but there were still a number of warnings which came up which he claims his diagnostic equipment couldn't help with. Therefore they've contacted a Fiat dealership and are possibly moving it there.

Am I going to get charged a fortune for this?

I think Fiat generally charge around 60 quid to use their diagnostics so be prepared for that, from what you just said it sounds like a short could potentially be the issue so hopefully nothing too important has been fried...
