Hello...I'm doing a lot of :bang: at the moment. Quite a few problems and I can't tell if they're all related or not. If you can suggest a fix for any of these, I would appreciate it very much.

1) Passenger footwell is soaked. Driver footwell is wet but not pooling. This has been for about 2 weeks.

2) Coolant bottle empty - don't know how long for but fans started blowing cold air about 2 days ago. Filled it with water, fans started working properly (only on 2 &4 - resistor keeps slipping out of connection). Went out last night, gurgled on start up and passenger footwell was wetter than ever. It had been tipping it down so don't know if it's due to weather).

3) Cancheck has just appeared on my radio.

4)Cooling fan staying on for a couple of minutes after I take the key out of ignition.

My engine temp is fine. Started having problems with the resistor for the fan about 6 months ago - replaced but there's no bracket and it keeps slipping out. All of the settings work but not all at the same time - I can get 1&3 or 2&4....Again :bang:

I love my car but this is doing my nut in...

Is the water in the foot well coolant? Check the matrix isn't leaking

Can check

Test battery alternator and earth cable

Fan check blower loom plugs for burning and replace if damaged

I'd agree with Andy Monty I suspect you have a leak from the cooling system/heater circuit into the car. That would account for the water in the car, the dropping coolant level and the fans running on (car overheating)

I'd sort this ASAP and make sure you get some anti-freeze into the system in this weather if you haven't done so already

It's the heater matrix. We've taken the vent in the passenger footwell off and water/coolant is piddling through. The heater matrix doesn't look like the guide though, it looks like it's fitted differently and my husband said he thinks it will slide out...But it won't, will it?

I've got a mobile mechanic coming out to it next week - any ideas of how much I should expect to pay?

Could you please up date this , as it would be good to know,

GP's are getting older now, so matrix leaks,
could become the new "my steering light is on..!!"

Update:

Well the heater matrix is working now - mechanic put a chemical in with antifreeze and it's sealed it. I think it was k-seal.

He's also fixed my heater/fan problem - I bought a loom repair kit from ebay and a new resistor, cost about £50, and now that's all okay.

But this morning it wouldn't start. I haven't used much over the holiday so I'm hoping it's my battery. Would that explain the CANCHECK on my radio? It's turning over but not firing - the lovely soft buzzing noise turns to a clicky/raspy noise if I turn the key to maximum...

Oh the joys...
