Hi all,

I have had a slight knocking noice under acceleration in both 1st and 2nd gear that goes away soon after the clutch is let out. My initial thoughts where that it could be the rear shocks (that's where the noise appears to be coming from).

Today it has just passed its MOT, and only needed the rear brakes adjusting/cleaning. The garrage said that was casing the noise. However it still is doing it. It isn't the shocks or springs as the mot tester said they where all fine.

Could it possibly be a clutch slipping or sticking? I don't know what it could be now. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Ashley.

What you've just said makes little sense logically.

The rear shocks are behind you, the clutch in front.
If you could be a little more specific as the where the noise is manifest and under exactly what conditions.
Is it a constant knock, knock sound or just the once.

I can only assume one scenario that would create a clunk from the rear on clutch take up and that would be the exhaust knocking.

Hi agin,

It's more of a thudding noise that seems to be coming from the from of the car.
It's a constant thud thud thud under acceleration at speed of 10-20 mph in 1st and 2nd.

The noise seems to go away after you change up.
Hope this is more useful

Like keat63 said at the end bud, could be the exhaust,it was the same on mine although you could still hear it in every other gear just it was barely there! Mine was the flexi bit on the front pipe, give it a crack with your hand and you,ll know what i mean, youll hear it if its the noise i think it is, hope this helps

Hi bud, i had my exhaust done the other day and surprise surprise, the noise was still there, i didnt hear it at first but i did when i was listening for it.....this might sound stupid but i found out exactly what mine was!

On your air filter box, there should be a pipe on the left of it? At the end of the pipe should be a rubber bit that goes through a bracket, mine was held on with a cable tie as the rubber just wouldnt hold, the cable tie had broke somehow and the pipe had disconnected from the bracket, and when i was accelerating in 1st and 2nd it was making an awful noise, i would just check it, if its not held on the bracket get a cable tie and tie it on, hopefully that should do it!

Hope it comes of some help, let me know
