If you are a regular on the forum, you will most likely know me.

I own, or rather did own a 1.2 8v Active GP.

After fixing a rather troubling oil leak, the following day, after torrential rain fall on bone dry road surfaces and the really warm weather over the last few weeks... I wrote the car off. (nothing to do with the oil leak though)

Spun and slid on freshly cut grass with the back-end wrapping around a lamp-post.

Anyway, now that the insurance pay-out is around the corner, i'm away to view a GP 1.4 Active Sport tomorrow.

It does have 101,000 miles on it already, but due to the hike in my insurance premium, it's all i can afford, as my job(s) require my own transport and the GP is pretty much the perfect car for the job.

Basically i've stuck this post up to ask if the 1.4 engine is the same as the 1.2 8v on my previous GP? unsure if it is 8v/16v.

oh! And it's the same age, a 56 plate.

If it's the 95hp then it's a 16v starjet engine. Much more powerful than 1.2...

1.4 8v produces only 77hp. Go for a starjet if you can.

Not sure if my insurance company would like that... jumping from (65/69hp can't remember) to 95hp with an accident on record? :/

Id get some quotes with different models, its not as simple as more power = more to insure. Often low powered models can be more expensive as they are more common therefore more will have been crashed so higher risk

The 1.4 will almost certainly be an 8v as i am sure the 16v was only available in the sporting at that year.

The 1.4 8v is a good engine. Never feels like it is struggeling. The power is lower in the rev range too as 16v engines need to be revved to give the best power.
