Hi

Ive recently had my top strut mounts changed along with my coil springs. But there is is still a knock/clunk when turning my steering wheel full lock from one direction to the other.

You can feel it through the steering wheel and sometimes by your feet.

I read something on here where someone said to put my hands down by the footwell area at the back and grab the bar (steering column maybe :/lol) to see if there is any play in it.

So i did this and there is slight play in it, also i got someone to turn the wheel whilst i grabbed the steering column and the clunk is definetly felt through this.

How can i sort this?

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks as always

N is that ne age?

My understanding is that a re-call doesn't expire so yes at any age if fiat's database says it has not been done. I believe the recall related to a bolt in the steering column that can work loose. You can call fiat and check if your car is affected and if it has been done.

Your problem could be something else of course.

I've got the exact same problem, also having replaced top mounts. Car has been with FIAT a couple of times so shouldn't they have told me about the recall if it hadn't been done?

Officially I think the answer is yes but I suspect that they are so pushed for time when servicing things might not always go by the book. I'm sure one of the fiat techs on here will straighten things out.

P.s. Have you both checked for a broken tip of the coil spring? Common fault on gps and causes a similar noise.

Sorry to bring up an old thread!
I have this problem at the minute.
Iv just rang fiat and they have confirmed that my car hasnt been in for any of the recalls, but they are charging an hours labour to check it? Is this right? Surely they cant recall it and then charge you on top of that aswell?
