Does anyoe know where I can find specs for the 1.9 sporting?

I have been looking everywhere but can't seem to find any apart from the usual on parkers.

Anyone know the 0-100 and something like 60-100 times? As these are much more useful than 0-60 times personally to me.

Thanks.

Well still can't find any. Maybe the old diesel can't make it to 100mph, and that's why there's now figures...

There is a Greek Magazine called "4 wheels" (4 Trochoi for those who've done greek at school!) which does acceleration and deceleration tests on every car they test! In January 2006 they tested the GP 1.4 8v and the 1.9JTD Sporting, their findings are the following:

GP 1.4 8v (77bhp @ 6,000 rpm)-------- 1.9JTD (130bhp @ 4,000rpm)

0-37mph 5.3" ----------- 4"
0-62mph 13.8" -----------9.6"
0-74mph 21.4" ------------14"
quarter mile 18.9" @ 71mph --------------17" @ 82mph
19-31 mph (3rd gear) 4.5" -----------------3.6"
31-50 mph (3rd gear) 6.4" ------------------3.5"
50-68mph (3rd gear) 8.6" -------------------5.1"
25-37mph (4th gear) 6.2" --------------------5"
50-68mph (4th gear) 10.2" ------------------5.5"
74-87mph (4th gear) 11.8" -----------------5.3"
31-44mph (5th, 5/6thgear) 8.2" ----------------7.1"
50-68mph (5th, 5/6thgear) 13.7"------------- 6.8"/9.2"
74-87mph (5th, 5/6thgear) 15.6" --------------5.9"/7.2"

Breaking 74mph-0mph metres/g 62.7m/0.89g------ 58.5m/0.96g
Weight (manufacturer/actual test car) 1,040/1,116kg ----1,205/1,294kg
Weight distribution front%/rear% 60.9%/39.1% ------66.1%/33.9%

Small wonder some of us find the Sporting front heavy compared with its petrol siblings, whereas the fact that some of us are achieving 50mpg+ from a car that weighs nearly 1,300 kg, well, that's a hell of an achievement!

I'd say that the mjtd sporting is a bit quicker than that. I ran a 1/4 mile at santa pod at 16.7 seconds standard and ive seen a few magazines and stuff on the net saying the 0 to 60 time is a bit lower than fiats quoted 9.6 seconds, but then the time testing, takes the car at a certain weight with certain amount of fuel etc.. .

Thanks for that.

I have actually just got of the phone with my local fiat dealer. The are getting a demo in soon, that I should be able to buy off them, but it's white. Now I quite like white cars, but I'm a little concerned about resale.

Anyway, am going for a test drive in the next few days to see how it feels like compared to my 172.

Why not consider my GP 130 & save a shedload of money? See the classifieds:eek:

The "Old Diesel" makes 124mph standard, & whilst the 0-60 time doesn't seem to be a ball of fire, I'm afraid that the "real life" driving experience belies belief. Where else can you buy a pretty car with negligable (to me) Group 6 insurance, 44-48mpg (real world figures from personal experience).

This little car will seriously embarass most higher output Audi's, BMW's etc. - & I can assure you that we are talking 230bhp+ cars. I've owned them & that's why I now run an Alfa Brera diesel chipped to 230bhp & 400nm torque. It blows my previous RX-8 (18mpg), Golf R32 (22mpg), Audi 225TT(33mpg) & BMW Z4 3.0 (32mpg) into the weeds - & returns over 38mpg....

0-60 times mean absolutely nothing with a TurboDiesel. Once you get to 2nd gear & about 2000rpm the turbo spins up & the power is incredible compared to it's petrol equivalent. However, driving a TDi for economy is QUITE different to it's petrol equivalent. You have to use converse thinking. If a diesel engine is laboured in a high (6th?) gear it will eat fuel. Use low gears all the time with diesel! 6th is only for motorway cruising - 80mph+. You quite simply DO NOT accelerate in high gears in a diesel - drop down 2 gears & use the turbo...

The petrol engine is dead. TurboDiesels rule - & cost a lot less to tax & insure! (£140 for my 130 Punto & £187 for the Brera - both fully comp with protected No Claims Bonus through Swiftcover.Com!)

As the "Blues Brothers" famously said "I see the light".
