i have a 1988 e reg fiat swift ducato and the turbo diesel engine has blown could anyone please tell me what engines will fit this van as i cant get a fiat engine anywhere thanks

Since these vans are principally the same as the Citroen and Peugeot equivalents, you could probably fit the engine and box from any of them but you might be involved in changing linkages and engine mountings etc. Trying to get a decent engine for the square-front Ducato of 88 vintage might be difficult now. I've always found it difficult to find out if you could fit, say, a later engine easily in to one of those, don't know if anyone else has done it ?

Hi atd
I recently had to change my engine too on the old Kon-Tiki. The gearbox was shagged and we had a 2 litre petrol - a thirsty joke :D Anyway a friend of mine wanted to fit a Citroen 2.1 turbo diesel engine and box from an XM. He reckoned he would have to make up engine mounts, but wasn't worried. The bloke he was to get the engine had a better idea. He had an old rusty 89 Ducatto and we simply used its old 2.5 straight diesel and box. This bloke is in Cavan, Ireland and he knows Fiats and Citroens like nobody I've ever met before. Most mechanics don't want Fiats, Alfas or Citroens (n) Surely your engine can be re-built. What's gone the head? Maybe the turbo has had enough? Is it driving? Fancy a trip to Ireland? I know you would get a warm reception in Cavan. (y)

i have been told an iveco daily will fit anyone know if this is correct?

I can't believe that I'm afraid. As you know the Fiat/Citroen?Peugeot vans are principally the same vehicle with each manufacturer using their own engine. Iveco is a completely different story a far as I know, never ever heard them mentioned in the same breath. Now, if you had a transit, then that would be a different story, basically the Iveco's were the next up from the Transits although now it's all got very confused namewise.
It is likely that something like a Citroen XM lump might fit, just don't know anyone that's done it. Not sure your chances of getting a decent one of those anyway though!

If you want an old XM motor there is a place in the Uk which only breaks and repairs the good ould XM - I think its called the XM Centre ( how original !:D ) an internet search should bring it up....(y)

hi maybe talk to mick, hes at salesatno1gear.com he deals in old fiat / tolbot parts and might be able to help.

sure iveco uses the same sofim engines !! only thing that has troubeled me was the fact that trere are different types of cranckshafts even in engines of the same type ( 8140.67, 8140.43,...)
so iveco does fit also !

do you think i should get some legal advice because he keeps fobbing me off when i phone all he says is "we are on the case" ??????????????????

You mean it's been at the garage that you've paid £1500 to for 3yrs? Something's not right there surely... I should go and see him face to face or somebody in a responsible position. Tell 'em you want it sorted. If this fails consider a solicitor's letter. Yes, gather together any paperwork you have and seek advice!
Give Mike Chubb a call about the oil pump and tell him the situation - get it to someone who knows what they are doing...

thank you very much lightweightmick mike grella is helping me out
