Hi there
My 2001 2.8 D has started to develop an odd hollow 'clunk' sound which happens when power is applied (or taken off) when driving, and when the engine is switched off - as it comes to a standstill. I recall when I last MOT'd it, the MOT chap mentioned the gear box mounts were in a poor condition, which leads to me think this could be the problem.
I am planning on tackling the job myself this weekend, though have never tried it before so wondering how easy / difficult it is? I was planning on changing the two rear mounts to begin with (attached to bracket at back of gear box). I may also do the left engine mount.
Is it simply a case of supporting the gearbox on a trolley jack, unbolting the mounts and swapping over?
Cheers
