Really P*****off, I have a 2003 2.8 Ducato with only one key, it falls in the dreaded 2001 to 2005 bracket that needs to be done by Fiat for a spare. Have tried a few locksmiths all come back with cant do :(
So rang Fiat today £246 for new one  Told by one to get a second hand ignition barrel & two keys and tape the transducer to near ignition. This however voids the insurance if stolen. Not happy.(n)

They are very easy to make for a proper auto-locksmith its one of the most accessible immobiliser units in any vehicle, takes about 10 mins to remove and generate transponders. Ponsaloti on this forum should be able to sort you out.

Not happy....why? You have a code 2 system which insurance companies like so therefore your insurance premiums are cheaper and the system is hard to bypass after all you wouldn't buy a vehicle that is easy to steal.

Did you buy the vehicle with one key? did you lose a key? have you tried shopping around? how much were you quoted for a key and was it a remote key? Do you have the immobiliser code?

Hi

Yes we have all had this problem and like most I think what they charge for a new key is a total disgrace. Even taking all of their cost they are working at over a 500% mark up.
So I don't like being ripped off and this was my train of thought bearing in mind that my ducato is a van conversion/motorhome type.
I am only likely to loose my "key" when we are on holiday and if I do loose it I should be able to get one fairly quickly from a "Main Dealer" thus delaying( hopefully for ever) having to buy a new key
So as long as I can get in the van I am OK.
My solution therefore is to have a key cut from the original which is simply a key to open the doors so I can get in and this only cost a few quid, Yes I know that I cant drive it but like most folks who drive this type of home on wheels I am retired so now not in a rush.
I know this will not be a fit all solution but it works for us

Once alocksmith has read the contents of the immobiliser they can knock you out any number of keys so once the first key is paid for the others should only cost a nominal fee extra. I might charge 180 euro for one key but once the hard work is done generating more keys takes seconds.
