Hi

As we are now getting on, yes yet another pensioner we have moved up from the cramped confines of a VW T5 SWB camper to a 2006 Ducato Tribute (not the new shape).

I am guessing that 2 out of my three questions have been asked before but I am not able to locate them so hopefully someone will be gentle with me and point me in the right direction.

As I previously stated it is a 2006 ducato, with the 2.3D engine having only 23k on the clock with fsh so here goes

1. Can you retro fit a cruise control and does any body have good experiences with ease of fitting and usage

2. When in traffic when we move off from idling I can see white smoke coming from the exhaust but not at any other time any ideas.

The third question is a bit different.
I would like to fit a double din audio unit (the one I had in the T5) as this has all the fancy bits like dvd player and Sat nav built in has anybody already done this or is there a pod that can replace the Clipboard on the top of the dash board that can be bought.

Many thanks to all who looked from this VW forum deserter.

Hi and welcome
You maybe should join http://www.tribby.co.uk/forum/ since it covers your motorhome.

1. Yes, you can have retrofit cruise control. Since the 2.8JTD has a drive by wire accelerator you can fit an electronic cruise control. I have the AP900. See http://members.iinet.net.au/~manins/motorhome/cruise-control.html. I do not recommend it, though perhaps there is a fault in the installation that I cannot find. In Australia the AP900 system is more expensive to buy separately than it is to have installed "professionally" (and I use the term loosely) due to price collusion.
The van can also be fitted with a vacuum cruise control system and there are some in UK that will do that, though it is a messy fit.

2. White smoke. Isn't that an indication of a head gasket or valve seal that is leaking?

3. I have seen the 2.8JTD with double DIN fitted. They must have removed the clip board to do it. An alternative is to sell your present system and buy a single DIN unit with all the fancy bits - they are available.
