We've just bought an '02' Ducato van and have noticed that the speedo needle has started wobbling at all speeds - it clocked me doing 80mph through the town the other day. Usually it setttles down and registers the correct speed (we think) but even then it still wobbles, then it will just randomly go berserk.
What could be the cause of this?

Also, yesterday the engine started revving excessively when we put it in 1st gear to pull away. It did this for a few minutes and then settled down and we were able to finally pull away.
Hubby went off to work in it this morning and it did the same thing again. In fact I could hear it over revving as he pulled away right at the top of the drive.
He popped it to the local garage yesterday because a light came on and the garage guy said it was the engine management system wanting details of its latest service. We didn't have those details so he cancelled it out for us.
What could cause this?

Finally, where would be the best place to buy a hinge for the right hand back door?

Thank you for any help.

speedo's can do that with a dry/sticky cable.

fiat dealer - specialist breaker,
is it a fiat VAN , of a manufactured rear body?,

Yes it's a Fiat Van.
Is the cable fixable for someone with experience of carrying out minor repairs or is it a garage job?

I haven't got the disc to hand but I think the speedo may be electronic ( its a changeover year) , no cable, it may be a sensor thing, wiring , the head unit or ecu in that order.

Yesterday it seemed to be working properly with no wobbling then all of it sudeen it dropped to zero and doesn't work at all now :(

Hi there.
I had the same problem with the speedo on my 02 Fiat Ducato based motorhome. It's easily fixed. The problem is the speed sensor bolted underneath the engine/gearbox block. Theyare prone to failure. To get a replacement sensor for £15.50 go on eBay toPEUGEOT 206 / 406 SPEED SENSOR RPM GAUGE 616070. An alternate part no is 616083. Peugeot vans and Fiat vans are made by the same people. (Sevel). I'm told that fittingis a simple DIY job. I didn't fancy crawling around under the van so I took my replacement part to a local commercial vehicle garage who charged £35 to fitit. You will see the same part offered for prices of £60 to £100. Don't pay that much! Hope this helps and good luck.
