Hello

My 96 ducato 2.5tdi van has started slipping out of 5th gear.

Gear can be selected, and the gear hold power under low/meduim revs and then slips out when accelerating any harder?

Anyone got idea ideas? I did fit a new 5th gear 2 years ago....

cheers, Oldsckooler

Nut holding gears on coming loose, allowing gear/sliding hub to move apart ? maybe. Have seen this on a couple of occasions.

Loose 5th gear nut would be my first guess, easy and free to check as well.

I've taken the casing off and the nut looked tight enough and would'nt go any tighter....?

Any other ideas

Any wear on the fork, will not move hub far enough to engage fully if worn ? any wear on the hub / gear teeth ?

Not sure if you have cable or rod linkage but could be stretched cable or worn linkage joints, this could also stop the gear fully engaging allowing it to jump out under pressure.
How many miles has it got?

The van has a dash mounted gear stick which controls two different push rod/cables.

The smaller cable has adjustment and is connected to the small control arm on the gearbox.

The larger cable (the one I would have thought need adjusting), does'nt seem to have an adjustment on it and is attached to the much large arm on the gearbox which feels like it has a fair amount of play.

I've also looked on the gearbox end of the cables and there does'nt seem to be adjustment on either cables at that end?

Anyone know how to adjust the large cable? OR
Could the larger arm on the gearbox need tightening up?

Cheers, Oldsckooler

just to chime in here, I also have this problem in 3rd gear. Gears select fine (except first which needs some encouragement, or to release the clutch in neutral). when accelerating or decellerating in 3rd it usually slips out, or if going over a bump. also have a 2.5 td 93 dash mounted gearbox
