hi i am looking for a little help i have just brought a fiat ducato swb on a 1998 plate,it previously had a 1.9td engine in it but i have bought this as a rolling shell, could any one tell me which engines(and possible gearbox )can be put back in as i have been told a pug 306 1.9td engine will fit is this true any comments will be helpfull thanks.

My 1998 ducato has a 2.5iTD engine fitted, this I think was a popular choice at the time so you might find it easier to source one of these.

All the shells were the same so in theory any engine from any donor van 1995-2000 will fit; the criteria really is if the original driveshafts are there and if you want to retain these. I believe each engine/gearbox combination had diferent shafts.

At least with that age of van there are no ECU or common rail systems to worry about, the engine will come self contained with pump, mechanical injectors, and glow plug(s); just connect fuel lines & electrical power to solenoid & glow plug(s)

I'd definitely go for the 2.5 or 2.8 td engine and gearbox they will do several hundred thousand miles once you give them good oil.
