Hi every one just googled my way here. I have a 53 plate 1.9jtd which has just recently started with a problem. When it is started from cold it doesnt take revs very well and has very poor acceleration up until the turbo kicks it. Once the turbo is spinning it drives well and pulls fine. After maybe 5 miles driving everything settles down and it pulls fine at all revs. The wife says once she noticed clouds of black coming out of the exhaust. I personally havent noticed it myself. Once warm each subsequent start is ok until it has been left long enough to cool down. It is still under warranty but as our dealer is a 2.5 hour drive away I thought I would investigate before arranging a trip back to the garage.
Cheers
Donnie

Hello and welcome to the forum :) glad you could join us! There has been a recent thread which you can read HERE on similar problems to what you are having which may be worth a read, even though they seem a bit more serious it may still relate to your problem. There's also some pictures on there which could help you decide if anything similar is wrong :)

It does indeed sound like the exhaust gas valve type thingy as the symptoms appear similar. I dare say as its under warranty I will have to arrange a trip south to the garage rather than tinker with it myself. I will do this when I get back from holiday. The little corugated pipe gets hot within seconds of starting the engine and If i undestood the other thread correctly it should not do that whilst ticking over.
Cheers

No it shouldn't. It would be a good idea to take it to the garage to get it done, but at least now you can suggest this to the mechanic and you know the sort of problem it is so that (god forbid) they can't rip you off :)

Hope you get it sorted and let us know how you get on! Oh, and enjoy your holiday :p lucky for some! ;)

Can be hard to determine which is actually at fault, egr valve or air flow meter' Fiat kindly brought out some neat tests for techs to accurately identify which;)

phoned the garage to arrange to drop it off, They hummed and hawed about the sluggish starting as the doblo diesel is very reliable not much problems with it (so they say). I then mentioned the EGR valve and they said oh yes of course that might explain it, they have been known to occaisionally cause problems. Then the day before we were due to go away the radiator started leaking. So with flasks of hot water in the car I set off on the 2 hour drive to the garage stopping every 30 minutes too top up the water. Left the car at the garage and they were not sure if the warranty would cover the radiator or the valve!! as we are in the 3rd year of the warranty and it is different to the first 2 years. Anyway on return from our holiday new egr fitted and new radiator with no charge all covered by the warranty. :) The car is running perfect again.

glad you got your doblo sorted, my 54 plate doblo cargo has the exact same fault, without the starting problem, I'm from caithness and van is booked into inverness for tomorrow and i'm going away on holiday as well!! assume it was inverness dealer you used ?at least they will have recent experiance of fixing this problem

Yes it was Donald Mackenzies in Inverness that we put it to. Thats where we bought it and they have done all the servicing on it.

Hi all, as mentioned earlier my doblo had the same fault ie: poor cold running, but it was starting ok, dealer replaced ERG valve and van is now back to normal, dealer wanted to charge me £275, van is 18mths old and 19k mls which they didn't seem to realise:confused: and did not seem pleased that it was covered under warrenty(y) . Dealer also stated it would not be covered under third year cover would this be correct that the van and car has different third year cover?

You may get a 3 year warranty but they're clever, the three year warranty is different and doesn't contain many things that the first two years contain :) oh don't we just love Fiat
