I was wondering if the plastic cover on top of the engine actually has any purpose other than to make the engine look neater.

to hide all the oil leaks and fuel leaks
ohh whats that should that be there,its other purpose may to keep water and debris off top of engine and to muffle any noise,hmm no sound deadening underneath:bang:

your quite right its to deaden the noise of the engine try running one without.

I thought noise reduction could be the main purpose. I'm running the Doblo without it at the mo. It's slightly noisier from outside but from inside it doesn't seem to make any difference.
