Technical Running on Bio-Diesel

Technical Running on Bio-Diesel

Yours is a 2003, my Stilo is 2005. My previous Stilo was 2002, I also run 100% Bio-Diesel in that with no problems.

I buy professionally produced Bio-Diesel(conforms to EN14214), don't would't trust the stuff produced by anyone else because it varies in quality to much. Professionally produced Bio-Diesel has to conform to strict EU guidelines and is safe to use in most cars 2000 onwards.

The guy I buy from gets his tested regulary at the local petrol refinery so I would assume it passes for them to OK it. He serves loads of people and also he stocks and sells white derv at a lower price so I would assume he needs to be licence for that. My corsa which was 2000 ran flawlessly on it. Started as normal and started after being under 6 feet of snow for a week last christmas.

Thanks! I will give £20 a try which will give me about 1/2 a tank and see how it goes.

Just to update you. I mixed 1/4 of a tank of Derv with 7 litres of Bio and it ran fine.. Computer is still acting like the bio is normal derv and the stuff is quality marked and tested weekly. It also conforms to EN14214 and another place tried to nick his customers but they came back because the other stuff had too much water in it!

It's now running on 100% and this morning despite it being -6 started on the second go of the glo plugs.

Fuel filter is £8 and will take no time at all to change. I am going to run it with derv I am jut trying it on a tank of 100% - but so far so good!.

It's 90p/litre at the moment but that's still good!

I have run a few cars on bio diesel and WVO over the last couple of year (corsa, astra, megane) and am aware of the maintenence required with filter changes oil changes etc.
I have now been running my 2000w reg punto jtd on bio for the last 2 months I have a worry that fuel is somehow getting into my oil,my dipstick is reading high where previously it was ok. Has anyone who has run bio in there cars had the same problem. Could it be seals that are perishing due to the fuel? Or does anyone know how to resolve.

thanks
wendy

I doubt it has anything to do with the fact your using bio.

Your car is 12 years old and probably never had its piston rings replaced. The rings are probably worn and allowing small amounts of fuel to pass into the crank case. This is bad as the fuel is not as good a lubricant as your engine oil. Your engine will wear quite quickly unless you stop the fuel getting into the oil.

thanks shadeyman. do you not think its a coincidence that its happened now when ive only recently started running bio. I like your optimism i was begining to think i had knackered my car.

Coincidence, yes probably.

Only just noticed you have a problem so you blame the last thing you altered on the car, Bio.

Optimism, not really.

As MEP has already said

As long as its correctly chemically cut biodiesel will work in any engine without issue, the only times issues can arise is as mentioned above with certain cold temps and it gelling up.

so as long as the Bio-Diesel your using has been correctly made it will not cause any problems. Cars made from 2000 onwards were designed with Bio-Diesel in mind because all diesel sold here in the UK is between 5 and 10% Bio-Diesel by law.

Your problems lie elsewhere, most likely worn piston rings, its not the Bio's fault your getting fuel in your oil.
