For anyone intrested, I have a 105 D Bravo 2013 model and was getting 64 mpg easily on Bridgestone ER300 Turanza tyres. Having read in Auto express that Continental Tyres were clearly the best all round tyre recently I bought 2 for the front when these needed changing very recently. Result ... mpg dropped instantly to 56 mpg max on the same journey.

Well I then managed to ruin a tyre and damage a wheel..... Pretty brassed off I had the wheel repaired at a cost of £90 (welded repair and re cut and repainted back to as good as new) - and put the remaining Conti on the repaired wheel and stashed it as the spare. 2 New Bridgestones fitted and 'hey presto' mpg is back to 64!

So much for the tyre rating system that said Contis were the same as the Bridgestones.

I have fitted Bridgestones to all my cars that they have fitted for the last 10 years (c. 750,000 miles) and have only had 1 puncture and no failures of any other kind. have just passed 56K on the last one of the original set on this car is still has 4mm left. I had 53000 out of the backs and 35K on the front of a mk 3 Vectra 2.0D a few years back and although they may not be quite as good as some common top makes, think they are the best all round tyre available. and exceptional value for money overall. Continental tyres? Never again for me I'm afraid!

WOW. I cannot believe that difference with tires only. Actually didn't think about mpg when buying tires :) Thank for that info ;)
