Hi,

I'm going to replace my front tyres.

The road noise from the current tyres is pretty bad so I I'm going to be looking at something quiet, and also with good grip etc.

So, which tyre would you recommend for quietness.

I've got a Tjet 120, size 16

Thanks.

You won't get rid of the road noise dude. It's probably the worst thing about the Bravo. You may be able to reduce it. As fas as grip, I too have the t-jet 120 and I'm using Dunlop BluResponse Sport and the grip is immense and incredible in the wet. I've never been able to even accelerate through the gear with past tyres, with these I can pull off super quick and it grips so well even as the turbo spools up for that fast acceleration. £70 a corner in a decent place but you get £10 off fuel if you buy 2.

Watch the back end though. Because of how grippy the tyres are it will turn into most corners with fantastic response. So much so that my back end kicks out and I end up drifting a front wheel drive car. My back tyres are just budget tyres so their grip is abysmal.

Thanks.

I think your right, the noise is part of the car: I'd still like to lower it as much as possible though :D

I've been looking at 'Goodyear efficient grip' which seem to have a good noise rating compared to others. I might get them through www.tyresonthedrive.com as they seem cheap AND come to your house to fit.

Before I commit to buy, anybody else got any suggestions?

Thanks.

Most quiet tyres are the Good Year efficientgrip performance. Great MPG to!

"Cant speak yet on their durablity or winter grip as only had them a week but wow its like driving on clouds - they are so quiet, the steering is now light and easy, theres no tramlining or excessive bouncing over bumps"

"Very quiet & smoother riding than the Dunlops, can't really comment on the economy "

"Before the change I could not get my trip computer to average more than 54.7MPG at the end of a weeks driving. After the front tyres were changed I am getting over 56.5MPG constantly. Grip is great, ride fine & just about noticeably quieter. "

" They are quiet and comfortable. Plenty of feel."

Hi,

Thanks.

I think it'll be the Goodyear Efficient Grip for me. The price is pretty good too. Will let you know how I get on with the road noise :)

Cheers,

I ran a couple of sets of Goodyear Efficient grip performance. They do indeed grip very well, but they also wore very quickly on my 1.9 150. I was lucky to get about 12k out of them and I also found the sidewalls very soft.

I've just fitted a pair of Michelin Energy Saver Plus to the front which have the same B (fuel) A wet grip rating, but should last longer (or so I'm told). I haven't tried them in ernest, but they don't feel as 'grippy' as the goodyears when braking lightly, but they seem to handle well.

Bridgestone now do an AA rated tyre, but they were almost double the price and supposed to be very softly made.

I just wish UK websites would publish the 'US' treadwear ratings. The goodyears are marked 360 or 380 if I remember rightly and the michelins are 400 - higher the number, longer the tire should last.

BTW the difference between an A and E rated tyre for fuel economy is only about 7%.

Lift off oversteer, I used to suffer with this in the corners. Typical front wheel drive stuff.

I've learnt to over come it using the accelerator, believe it or not but keeping your foot planted keeps the force in the front axle and stops the energy shifting to the rear/ light end of the car.

I kept doing the same as the above, until I watched some YouTube vids. Just research lift off oversteer (y)

Please get the "Efficient grip performance" the "performance" version is different to the norm (more expensive) but I think it's worth it for the extra wet weather grip they give.

Efficient tyres are great... but you might regret it if you go slamming into the back of someone else's car!

Stick the best you can on it, don't compromise. They are the only things connecting you to the road.

That's it! Spot on sir, fun on paper. scary as F**K when I don't want to do it, I reckon I'd be able to reduce it with better tyres on the back. The grip on them is abysmal, watched a video where they have to touch the brakes or handbrake to do it. I don't have to on mine. It just kicks out.

Will do, they are not much more in price. :)

Thanks again for all the input. (y)

I drive the Good Years EfficientGrip Performance myself, and they are remarkeble more quiet than the Continental Sportcontact 5. A friend of mine drives a 150 t-jet Sport (same car as I have) with these tyres and the difference is big!

Besides, I have driven 20.000km now and the tyres are half way in front and 3/4 on the back. But I drive them with 2.8 bar. Maybe that makes a difference with other users who are complaining about the wear.

I don't do a lot of miles a year, so I'll go for anything that makes those miles quieter, and safe.

I'm booked in for some Goodyear efficiency performance to be fitted in the morning. I'm getting the front done first, then the back in a roughly six weeks or so.

Will report back with my verdict soon.

Thanks again.

Had the Goodyear tyres fitted yesterday and then went on a long motorway trip.

Definitely quieter on most roads and grippy; although still pretty noisy overall on the motorway cheap stuff: I guess only a different car will sort that :(

Seemed to have gained a new rattle from the front now, will check the air pressure today.

Cheers (y)

I don't get it. My Bravo isn't very quiet, but also not loud for a car in the C-segment. A Golf or Astra aren't more quiet.
Besides, I heard that the facelift Bravo has gained more noise reduction material. So maybe a newer Bravo is an option? ;)

I'm probably being overly critical (as my local mechanic keeps telling me), but it does seem just as noisy on the motorway as my old Stilo was: even with these new tyres.

Still like it though :D

My bravo is a year old and is way quieter on roads and motorways than my previous 57 plate bravo, think this topic came up before too.
