I have seen a similar thread for this but wanted to ask if anyone knows for sure what this is?

When my 2.0 mjet sits idling on the drive, at traffic lights etc theres a noise coming from the engine which sounds just like brakes creaking, as if I'm sat on a hill without the brakes on properly. Its not quite that loud but a vry similar noise like a muffled tapping / quiet thudding.
Has anyone else had this? Does anyone know what it is?
I've put it down as just a characteristic of the engine but see people have also had it on the 1.9 mjet.
Mines only done 17k miles and is in next to new condition.
