Hello everyone.
I recently bought a used bravo(3 months ago), a 2008 150 tjet from a main fiat dealer.
Car has been great (apart from fuel consuption....eeek) but it has few problems.
First of all brakes squeak a lot, especially when they are wet or damp (like very early in the morning or after raining) and i can hear sometimes like a metal grinding noise (it's not bad, its very subtle, and not everytime).
Been back to the dealer for that and they said it was because the car has been sitting for a while and there was a buildup of dust...it didn't make any sense to me but thats what they said....my thought was that pads need replacing...hopefully not the discs!
Second....i have noises sometimes coming from the safety belt (it seems its coming from there...) both sides and back as well (from what passengers said) its a very subtle noise like plastic rubbing against plastic:it happen mostly while driving on rough roads (well pretty much every road where i live....).
Third... i have noises coming from the dashboard....it seems passenger side, but cant really tell;these are a bit louder, like plastic rubbing against plastic(that kind of "creek crick" sound),like they haven't screwed properly the components together.
Fourth...the back suspensions sometimes make a "clunk" when i go over a speed bump at more than 18 miles/hour...especially in the morning (i suspect cause they are cold?):if i push the car down myself i can't replicate the noise at all...could it be something else and not the suspension?
Fifth...and this is annoying....sometimes the seat feels like it's not properly held in place, having a clunk kind of noise, on bumps, steering etc etc....it's very random and not always from the same place...moving the seat forward or backwards doesn't make any difference.sometimes i have it while sitting down...sometimes i dont...weird, but its really annoying, especially on 90deg bends.
Oh last one :p the steering column make a very soft "gritting like" noise while parking (especially when the sport button is on and the steering is more hard) but this doesn't happen always...so i guess it's just me being picky!

Does anybody have a clue on what could cause those problems?
I am not taking the car where i bought it cause they are useless, and also quite far from me (means wasted time and petrol just to have a "its all ok" response).
Sorry for the long post!

Re number 3; I had something similar in my Regatta.
I had stripped the dash out, found a bumpy stretch of road.
Couldn't pinpoint it for about half an hour of running up and down this bumpy stretch. It continued to happen. I was almost leaning into the cavity to try to pinpoint it.

Pulled over, leant back in despair.

Saw sunglasses in sun visor.

STOP LAUGHING! It was not funny for at least another hour.

The moral of this tale; sounds are not always emanating from where your ears tell you they are.
The sound was travelling down the windscreen and bouncing of the top of the dash.

well i know that the part where you plug your driver's seat belt usually gets squeeky..it would sound like its the seats themselves since they're so close but i know many ppl who had this noise...you might wanna check it out preferably when the car's cold.
I get the feeling this car's really not made for rough roads, specially since yours is a sport. its just too firm even in the non-sport versions unless you drive on "good roads". mine needs a new front spring and its only done 20k km
I get the same suspension noise (also from the back) you mention whilst going down big speed bumps, have no clue what it is tho

Just a quick note:

If you hear rattling/clonking in the rear, check your back seats are locked in correctly. My girlfriend left them just resting on the latches the other day and it was driving me mental trying to work out where it was coming from :p

could be worse Pete...you could have removed the rear seats from the car entirely just to work that one out :p

Regarding noises from passenger safety belt, I identified my problem. The belt was rubbing against the plastic air-bag cover on the side of the seat.

Thanks everybody for the hints.
I did the usual checks (seats properly clipped in place...no objects etc etc) but i couldn't find anything wrong.
The seat definitely need to be looked at, cause it really feels like its not held in place, even if it is...the feeling is just too horrible, every now and then a clunk ....weird.
Now the car squeak even when driving very slowly..like 5 mph...so i guess its either the handbrake or the pads too loose?
The safety belt is very random....at the start i thought was a speaker buzzing in the back....then turned radio off and still there....but not all the time! maybe a pre tensioner or something?
It all feels very random...apart from the seat...so it would be pointless to go to a dealer..cause they will say "its all ok" as usual.
But everything get forgotten when you have got a golf gti up your back, then you accelerate and they are like "wtf?" lol

Hello
I did a bit of tests and checked the usual bits&bobs...
The steering wheel soft noise is gone...it seems it was connected to the cold weather and just after few minutes of driving.
The noises at the back are still there...but not after the car is being driven for a while (suspensions warming up??) still sound like a metallic "clonk"..
The noises from the dash are random....sometimes i don't have them at all! but yes they do come from the passenger side.
Noises from the safety belt are still there, still random....i guess there's something loose there or something touching (like the aforementioned airbag cover) so i will investigate it.
Seat is very annoying, can't do anything about it so when it will be time for the annual service i will let the dealer investigate it (another dealer cause original one was....rubbish).
Car now squeak when low on speed (like when in a queue and you are going 3 mph) and when braking down softly, so i suppose pads or something sticking?

Is it difficult to change pads and disks?
I would definitely try changing pads....any idea on decent ones?

Now on holidays in italy and i miss driving my car :(
(lots more bravos on the road here btw)
Thanks everyone
