General The 105 twin air who has one?

Hi there, how have you found your 105 twin air. I have just ordered one, similar spec to yours, due beginning of March 2015.

Only had mine 4 days but so far pretty much impressed ,it cruises on the motorway at 65-70 mph ,town driving nippy and so easy to park ,the sport button liven`s things up certainly feels planted to the road ,gearbox is slick and smooth, the brakes are responsive without being to grabby and i expect economy for winter months at around 43-45 mpg and the summer months at round 50-52 mpg unless my right foot gets stuck in sport mode :Dthen less ,but yes so far a good bit of engineering (y)

i love mine having had 2 1.2's before
the 105 is no more economic than the 1.2 in my opinion
but wow so much more fun to drive, and it sounds good too

Hi. I have never run a 1.2 and therefore have no way of telling. What I do know is that there seems to be a competitive edge that gets in the way of ACLU being able to tell. Everyone drives differently and everyone's journeys, road conditions, traffic etc are different. What I do know is that my mpgs living in London are vastly different to what they would be if I lived in Norfolk. In the same car! So there is a significant barrier to objective comparison. I personally find the whole topic rather boring. It is pointless diccussing what someone in Norfolk gets compared to London as much as what one person gets on an urban school run compared to someone driving open A roads. I will say what I have said before: a TA can be driven economically and can get high MPGs but anyone buying one because they think they will achieve the official figures in everyday driving will be disappointed.

Comparison
Ulverston to Leeds via A65 route so there is no motorways to take into account.
best MPG i ever got in my 1.2 on that run was 56, but this was a really slow day when in line of cars doing 45 MPH for miles (maybe in the 105 I would have got past more easily)
but in last 5 months in the 105 best i have done for the route is 50 mpg:)

and i think the 1.2 will be more reliable over time = )

Think? Is that something that should be taken into account by anyone other than yourself? I don't understand the logic of making a statement like that!!!!
engine of the 1.2 is less stressed than the TA and does not have a turbo = ) but if you plan on keeping the car 3 years you'll probably be fine.

Looks like we are wandering off topic here again!
As far as i can see since the twin air 85 came out the engine has been very reliable but that's for another thread day !
Anyway back on topic its a really good engine and i can only echo babyferrari, and cockerhoop regarding mpg ,i expect 43-45 in winter and around 50 in the summer i will of course report back.(y)

You are right rkt. Wandering off topic with unsubstantiated speculation. Back on topic it really depends on your driving style and journey. Drive sedately and you should beat those figures, press on and you won't. No surprises there really. I find it is very sensitive to the way you drive. I spend way too much time in stop start traffic to get decent mpg in any car but as soon as I go on a longer trip I get the benefit of better economy. However I have said it at least a million times before mpgs are not the point of a 105. I prefer gpms (grins per mile)

Yes i noticed that on a dual carriage way today :D oh and the other smile factor of free road tax and cheaper insurance = great result for us (y)

We have an 85TA at 875cc.
What is the mechanical difference between ours and a 105TA?
Are they the same engine?

If you can fit a different ECU to an 85hp to get 105hp, is that all the difference is?

Regards,
Mick.

I sure there is information somewhere on the forum regarding the differences. I am sure different injectors and turbo are fitted.

I understand there is a bit more to it than that. I am sure I read somewhere about a new manifold design. Remember the 105 also gets discs all round and ESP with hill holder.
You can probably get the ECU reprogrammed to increase the power but that is another thread.

Revised inlet manifold design, referred to as multiair 2 apparently

I test drove one recently, didn't notice hardly any difference in taking of and general motorway driving tbh, although I almost head-butted the steering wheel breaking. It was a brand new one so wasn't worn in at all, and I'm used to a year old 85 TA....

Not a fan of the new interior design on the seats and doors though :(
